NetBackup 8.1.2 / 3.1.2 HotFix - Virtual Machine will not boot after restore (Etrack 3976070)
Abstract
Description
Veritas Bug ID: ET 3976070
Version: NetBackup 8.1.2
Installation Location: Server (VMWare backup host)
Problem Description:
- Restore of Win2012 R2 Virtual Machine with MBR dynamic boot disk (with System Reserved partition) is being modified and not bootable but has exit status 0 on backup and restore jobs.
- Virtual machines are not bootable once restored (MBR dynamic disk).
- Offset is being translated twice on LDM disks when excluding the page file. This results in the wrong sector being skipped during the backup, potentially causing a corrupt backup image.
- VMware backups hang during getExtent call occasionally. This changes assignment of a negative number to an unsigned variable, logs once every 10k iteration of a file, and will fail the extent calculation if the same offset is seen 10k times in a row.
Fixes Included in EEB Bundle Version 2:
3973811: VMware backups in a hung state
3977894: [SWST] Virtual machines are not bootable once restored (MBR dynamic disk)
Restore of Win2012 R2 Virtual Machine with MBR dynamic boot disk (with System Reserved partition) completes with status 0, but the VM is not bootable once restored. The VM was backed up via VMWare Policy with the optimization parameter Exclude swap and paging files
enabled.
A workaround is to disable Exclude swap and paging files
in the VMWare policy.
