Veritas NetBackup™ 52xx Appliance Initial Configuration Guide

To configure a catalog backup policy for an appliance

1. Before you launch the NetBackup Administration Console to configure a catalog backup policy for an appliance, you must first mount the target NFS storage device to the appliance as follows:

   • Log into the NetBackup Appliance Shell Menu and navigate to the Manage > MountPoints view.

   • Run the following command to mount the NFS storage device to the appliance:

     Mount RemotePath MountPoint NFS/NFSv4

   • Run the List command to verify that the NFS storage device is mounted correctly.

2. Launch the NetBackup Administration Console and do the following:

   • In the left pane, expand Security Management and then select Security Settings.

   • In the Details pane, click the Disaster Recovery tab.

   • Enter a passphrase in the Passphrase data entry field and then enter the same passphrase in the Confirm Passphrase data entry field.

3. Configure the catalog backup policy as follows:

   • In the left pane, expand NetBackup Management and click Configure the Catalog Backup to launch the NetBackup Catalog Backup Wizard.

   • Enter a Policy name, select Create a new catalog backup policy, then click Next.

   • Specify the backup types that you want, then click Next.

   • Select the frequency and the schedule of the backups, then click Next

   • In the Logon data entry field, enter the username of the appliance administrator. In the Password data entry field, enter the password for the appliance administrator.

4. Create a catalog disaster recovery file as follows:

   • On the Catalog Disaster Recovery File page, browse and select the new mount point that you created, where each disaster recovery image file can be saved. The image file contains the disaster recovery information.

     The image file is typically saved to a network share or a removable device by specifying an NFS share in the path field. For example: /mnt/remote/example, which is an NFS share point mounted on the appliance. To ensure that this path is writable, make sure that the following items on the NFS server are set as follows:

   • On the NFS server, use the chmod command to set the permission value of the shared folder to 777.

   • Apply the read/write (rw) flag to the shared folder in the NFS service configuration file (/etc/exports). For example： /local/nfs/example 10.200.0.0/16(rw,sync,no_subtree_check)

     Note:

     Make sure that you record the location of the image file so that the catalog can be recovered, if it is ever necessary.

   • Enter one or more email addresses to receive disaster recovery information, then finish the backup policy configuration.

5. Manually run the catalog backup policy in the NetBackup Administration Console. A disaster recovery (DR) file and a drpkg package are generated at /admin and also emailed to recipients if email is configured.
