Problem
Enterprise Vault (EV) Discovery Accelerator (DA) 14.4.0 version 14.0.0 introduced an Enhanced Auditing feature to allow the capture of select actions by DA users. The actions to be configured and reviewed are accessed through a web-based client, also known as the thin client, that runs on the Accelerator server.
Attempts to access the web-based client to configure the Audit Settings or to view the Audit Viewer does not appear to do anything.
Error Message
No error is presented.
Cause
The web-based clients use the normal IIS features, such as Application Pools and Virtual Directories, to communicate with the Enhanced Auditing server. These Application Pools and Virtual Directories are named AuditingApi and AuditingWeb for DA. Each of the Virtual Directories has their files in folders of the same names in the Accelerator installation folder. Corruption in one or more of the files in the folders used by one of the Virtual Directories and/or missing files/folders will prevent the web-based client from opening.
Solution
Implement the following steps on the Accelerator server to recreate the AuditingApi and AuditingWeb for DA and SupervisionWeb Application Pools, Virtual Directories and folders:
1. Mount the base EV version's installation media on the Accelerator server. If an Update Release has also been installed, mount its installation media as well. For example, if DA 14.4.1 is installed, mount both the EV14.4.0 and 14.4.1 media so their files are readily available.
2. Stop the Enterprise Vault Accelerator Manager Service (EVAMS).
3. Open the Programs and Features application (Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features, or Start | Run | appwiz.cpl).
4. Right-click on the Accelerator server | Change.
4.1. Welcome screen: Next.
4.2. Modify, repair, or remove installation: Select Modify, then click Next.
4.3. Prerequisites: Select the acknowledgment, then click Next.
4.4. Prerequisites Status: If all prerequisites list OK in green, click Next.
4.5. Custom Setup: Click the drop-down next to Websites and select Entire feature will be installed on local hard drive.. This should change the colour of the product name server and Websites options from gray to white, indicating everything is selected. If only the Websites option turns white, then drop-down next to the product name at the top level and select Entire feature will be installed on local hard drive.. Once all options are selected (white), click Next.
4.6. Accelerator Service Account Login: Verify the VSA account is listed, enter the password, then click Next.
4.7. Enhanced Auditing Configuration: This page should not need to be edited and should list the Server Alias as the server hostname, the Website Port as 81 and the Internal Port as 82. Click Next.
4.8. Ready To Install: Click Install and monitor the installation until complete.
5. If prompted to restart the server, restart it. If not prompted to restart the server, start the EVAMS.
6. Check the Accelerator server installation folder on the DA server to ensure both the AuditingApi and AuditingWeb folders have been recreated and populated.
7. Check in IIS Manager on the DA server to confirm the AuditingApi and AuditingWeb Application Pools and Virtual directories have been created.
8. Test access to the web-based client. This can be accomplished by clicking on the Browse option for the AuditingWeb virtual directory in IIS Manager or directly through a web browser.
