WEEE Information for Veritas Customers and Recyclers
Under the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive and implementing regulations, when customers buy new electrical and electronic equipment from Veritas they are entitled to:
- send old equipment for recycling on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis (this varies depending on the country)
- send the new equipment back for recycling when this ultimately becomes waste

Collection and Recycling Arrangements in Austria
Under the Austrian Ordinance on Waste Prevention, Collection and Treatment of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE Ordinance) that came into force on August 13th 2005, for equipment that you buy from Veritas after August 13th 2005, Veritas is required to provide arrangements for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of WEEE that your new purchase replaces, on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis. The old equipment that your new purchase from Veritas replaces is referred to as Historic WEEE.
Under the WEEE Ordinance, Veritas is also required to provide arrangements for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of any electrical and electronic equipment that you buy from Veritas after August 13th 2005 when that equipment eventually becomes waste. This is referred to as New WEEE.
Veritas products are very competitively priced. Any new increase in operating costs for manufacturers such as Veritas is normally reflected in a price increase in the product. However, instead of increasing the prices of our products, Veritas has decided to share these new environmental costs directly with our customers. We believe in being transparent with you on any new environmental costs that our products need to address.
Our approach to sharing these new environmental costs is:
- Veritas pays for the costs of treatment, recycling and recovery of the WEEE to meet the targets set by the WEEE Ordinance;
- Veritas pays for the costs of data management and reporting to the Federal Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Environment and Water Management to demonstrate compliance with all administrative requirements of the WEEE Ordinance;
- you pay for transportation of your WEEE to Veritas's appointed recycler in Austria.
Veritas has established a recycling contract with the European Advanced Recycling Network (EARN) and will cover any costs of treatment, recycling and recovery of the equipment on arrival at the EARN recycling facility in Austria. All New WEEE that arises from the purchase of Veritas products is classed as non-hazardous waste.
It is your responsibility to arrange and pay for costs of collection and transportation to the recycler. Under Austrian waste management regulations, you are free to use any carrier you wish to collect and transport the Historic and New WEEE to the EARN recycler.
For larger quantities of waste, you may want to contact the recycler directly to arrange and pay for alternative collection methods. The EARN recycling facility in Austria is:

Collection and Recycling Arrangements in Belgium
Regulations concerning the management of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) in Belgium are implemented at a regional administrative level:
- In the Brussels Capital region by an amendment to the existing Producer Responsibility Decree which came into force on June 3rd 2005
- In the Flanders (Flemish) Region by amendments to the Waste Prevention and Management Ordinance (VLAREA) which came into force on December 1st 2004
- In the Wallonia region by an amendment to the existing Producer Responsibility Decree which came into force on June 3rd 2005
Under the WEEE Regulations for each Administrative Region of Belgium, for equipment that you buy from Veritas after August 13th 2005, Veritas finances the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of WEEE that your new purchase replaces, on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis. The old equipment that your new Veritas product replaces is referred to as Historic WEEE.
Under the Regulations in each Administrative Region, Veritas also finances the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of any new electrical and electronic equipment that you buy from Veritas after August 13th 2005, when that new equipment eventually becomes waste. This is referred to as New WEEE.
Veritas products are very competitively priced. Any new increase in operating costs for manufacturers such as Veritas is normally reflected in a price increase in the product. However, instead of increasing the prices of our products Veritas has decided to share these new environmental costs directly with our customers. We believe in being transparent with you on any new environmental costs that our products need to address.
Our approach to sharing these new environmental costs is:
- You pay for transportation of your WEEE to Veritas's appointed recycler in Belgium.
- Veritas pays for the costs of treatment, recycling and recovery of the WEEE to meet the targets set by the WEEE Regulations for each region in Belgium
- Veritas pays for the costs of data management and reporting through membership to local collective system Recupel in order to demonstrate compliance with all administrative requirements of the Belgium WEEE Regulations in each region
Veritas has established a recycling contract with the European Advanced Recycling Network (EARN) and will cover any costs of treatment, recycling and recovery of the equipment on arrival at the EARN facility in Belgium . All Historic and New WEEE that arises from the purchase of Veritas products is classed as non-hazardous waste.
You should contact the EARN recycler below (who will be appropriately authorised to transport WEEE in Belgium) to arrange and pay for WEEE collection and transport to its recycling facility.

Collection and Recycling Arrangements in Bulgaria
Producer responsibility for the take-back of electrical and electronic equipment in Bulgaria is covered by the Ordinance on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment, which transposes the WEEE Directive. Implementing Decree 256/2013 was issued at the end of 2013.

Producer responsibility for the take-back of electrical and electronic equipment in Croatia is covered by the EEE Regulations (No.48/14) of 15 April 2014, which transpose the WEEE Directive.

Collection and Recycling Arrangements in the Czech Republic
Veritas products are sold in the Czech Republic by dealers and distributors. The dealers and distributors act as the importer of the equipment into the Czech Republic. Thus the dealers and distributors have the legal responsibility to:
- Register as the WEEE producer in the Czech Republic.
- Provide arrangements for collection and recycling of WEEE arising from Veritas products that the dealer and distributor sells in the Czech Republic.

Collection and Recycling Arrangements in Denmark
Denmark has adopted a different approach to implementing the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive from that of other EU Member States. The WEEE Directive is transposed by the Danish Order for WEEE which came into force on August 1st 2005. Under the Order, local authorities must establish a collection system for WEEE from private households (B2C WEEE) and also for WEEE from businesses (B2B WEEE). The collection system must be established by April 1st 2006 and can be in the form of:
- a bring-it yourself scheme. This is a designated site within the Municipality assigned to receive B2C and B2B WEEE;
- a collection scheme. This is a scheme whereby a Municipality or company gather WEEE from private households and business addresses;
Denmark is the only EC Member State in which businesses can supply their WEEE for collection and recycling alongside household WEEE through local authority collection schemes.
When equipment that you bought before April 1st 2006 becomes waste (known as Historic WEEE) we recommend that you make use of the collection scheme provided free-of-charge by your local authority. If you buy a new item of Veritas equipment after April 1st 2006 to replace equipment purchased before this date (on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis) and do not want to use the free collection scheme provided by the local authority, Veritas can arrange to collect the Historic WEEE from you at your request. However, the costs for providing this service may be included in the purchase price of the new equipment that Veritas supplies to you.
For equipment that you purchase from Veritas after April 1st 2006, when this equipment becomes waste (known as New WEEE), we recommend that you also make use of the collection scheme provided free-of-charge by your local authority. If you not want to use the free collection scheme provided by the local authority, Veritas can arrange to collect the New WEEE from you at your request. However, there may be an associated cost for providing this service to you.

Collection and Recycling Arrangements in Finland
Under the Finnish Waste Act which implements regulations for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) which came into force on August 13th 2005, for equipment that you buy from Veritas after August 13th 2005, Veritas is required to provide arrangements for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of the waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) that your new purchase replaces, on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis. The old equipment that your new purchase from Veritas replaces is referred to as Historic WEEE.
Under the Waste Act, Veritas is also required to provide arrangements for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of any new electrical and electronic equipment that you buy from Veritas after August 13th 2005, when that new equipment eventually becomes waste. This is referred to as New WEEE.
Veritas covers the following costs for WEEE compliance management in Finland:
- The costs of treatment, recycling and recovery of the WEEE to meet the targets set by Finland WEEE Regulations;
- The costs of data management and reporting to the Centre for Economic Development, Traffic and the Environment for Pirkanmaa to demonstrate compliance with all administrative requirements of the Finland WEEE Regulations;
- The costs of transportation of your WEEE to Veritas's appointed recycler in Finland.

Collection and Recycling Arrangements in France
Under the French Decree on the Prevention and Management of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) which came into force on August 13th 2005, the financing of collection and recycling of any waste electrical and electronic
equipment (WEEE) arising from equipment bought before August 13th 2005 is the customer's responsibility. This is regardless of whether the equipment is being replaced by a new piece of equipment from Veritas. Equipment purchased
before August 13th 2005 is referred to as Historic WEEE.
Under the Decree, Veritas is required to provide arrangements for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of any new electrical and electronic equipment that you buy from them after August 13th 2005, when that new
equipment eventually becomes waste. This is referred to as New WEEE.
Veritas products are very competitively priced. Any new increase in operating costs for manufacturers such as Veritas is normally reflected in a price increase in the product. However, instead of increasing the prices of our

It is your responsibility to arrange and pay for costs of collection and transportation to the recycler. Under Decree 98-679 1998 Relating to Road Transport, the Trade and the Broking of Waste, you are free to use any carrier
you wish to collect and transport non-hazardous WEEE to the EARN recycler, providing the total weight of equipment to be transported is less than 500 kg.

Collection and Recycling Arrangements in Germany
Under the Germany Act Governing the Sale, Return and Environmentally Sound Disposal of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (ElektroG) which came into force on August 13th 2005, the financing of collection and recycling of any waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) arising from equipment bought before March 24th 2006 is the customer's responsibility. This is regardless of whether the old equipment is being replaced by a new item of equipment purchased from Veritas. Waste arising from equipment purchased before March 24th 2006 is referred to as Historic WEEE.
Under the ElektroG Act, Veritas are required to provide arrangements for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of any new electrical and electronic equipment that you buy from them after March 24th 2006, when that new equipment eventually becomes waste. This is referred to as New WEEE.

Collection and Recycling Arrangements in Iceland
The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive is a European Directive which requires producers to make arrangements for the collection and recycling of WEEE. The Directive is transposed into national law by EU Member States. As a signatory to the EEA agreement, Iceland has an obligation to transpose the WEEE Directive.
Producer responsibility for the take-back of electrical and electronic equipment in Iceland is covered by Act 73/2008 which transposes the broad outlines of the WEEE Directive. Implementing regulation 1104/2008 was issued at the end of 2008. No amendments are currently planned.

Collection and Recycling Arrangements in Italy
The Italian Legislative Decree No. 49 of March 14, 2014 transposes the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive 2012/19/EU.
For equipment that you buy from the Veritas after December 31st 2010, Veritas is required to provide arrangements for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of WEEE that your new purchase replaces, on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis. This is providing the weight of the old equipment is less than double that of the new purchase. The old equipment that your new purchase from Veritas replaces is referred to as Historic WEEE.
Under the Decree, Veritas is also required to provide arrangements for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of any new electrical and electronic equipment that you buy from Veritas after December 31st 2010, when that new equipment eventually becomes waste. This is referred to as New WEEE.

Collection and Recycling Arrangements in the Netherlands
Under the Dutch Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Management Regulations which came into force on January 1st 2005, Veritas is responsible for the financing of collection and recycling of the following equipment:
- Any electrical and electronic equipment that you bought from Veritas before August 13th 2005 (referred to as Historic WEEE), which is being replaced by a new piece of equipment bought from Veritas; and
- Any new electrical and electronic equipment that you buy from Veritas after August 13th 2005, when that new equipment eventually becomes waste (referred to as New WEEE).
For any other waste electrical and electronic equipment bought before August 13th 2005 which is being replaced by an item of Veritas electrical and electronic equipment, the environmentally sound disposal of this other equipment is the customers responsibility.

Veritas has established a recycling contract with the European Advanced Recycling Network (EARN) and will cover the costs of treatment, recycling and recovery of the equipment on arrival at the EARN recycling facility in the Netherlands.
All New WEEE that arises from the purchase of Veritas products is classed as non-hazardous waste.
You should choose to use a Waste Carrier who is suitably authorised to transport non-hazardous waste in the Netherlands. It is your responsibility to arrange and pay for costs of collection and transportation to the EARN recycler.

Collection and Recycling Arrangements in Norway
Norway is not part of the European Union and therefore does not have a legal obligation to implement the WEEE Directive into national law. However, an agreement under the European Economic Area (EEA) means that Norway is required to adopt broadly similar environmental legislation to that passed in the EU. Collection and Recycling Arrangements in Poland
Under the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Act in Poland which came into force on October 21st 2005, for equipment that you buy from Veritas after August 13th 2005, Veritas is required to provide arrangements for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of WEEE that your new purchase replaces, on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis. The old equipment that your new purchase from Veritas replaces is referred to as Historic WEEE.
Under the WEEE Act, Veritas is required to provide arrangements for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of any new electrical and electronic equipment that you buy from Veritas after August 13th 2005, when that new equipment eventually becomes waste. This is referred to as New WEEE. Veritas customers should note that producer responsibility obligations to take back New WEEE in Poland have not yet been finalised.

Under the Spanish Royal Decree 208/2005 on Electrical and Electronic Equipment and Management of its Waste which came into force on August 13th 2005, for equipment that you buy from Veritas after August 13th 2005, Veritas is required to provide arrangements for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of the waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) that your new purchase replaces, on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis. The old equipment that your new purchase from Veritas replaces is referred to as Historic WEEE.
Under the Decree, Veritas is also required to provide arrangements for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of any new electrical and electronic equipment that you buy from Veritas after August 13th 2005, when that new equipment eventually becomes waste. This is referred to as new WEEE.
Veritas products are very competitively priced. Any new increase in operating costs for manufacturers such as Veritas is normally reflected in a price increase in the product. However, instead of increasing the prices of our products, Veritas has decided to share these new environmental costs directly with our customers. We believe in being transparent with you on any new environmental costs that our products need to address.
Our approach to sharing these new environmental costs is:
- Veritas pays for the costs of treatment, recycling and recovery of the WEEE to meet the targets set by the Decree.
- Veritas pays for the costs of data management and reporting to the General Directorate of Quality and Environmental Assessment of the Ministry of the Environment to demonstrate compliance with all administrative requirements of the Decree.
- you pay for transportation of your WEEE to Veritas's appointed recycler in Spain.
Veritas has established a recycling contract with the European Advanced Recycling Network (EARN) and will cover any costs of treatment, recycling and recovery of the equipment on arrival at the EARN recycling facility in Spain. All New WEEE that arises from the purchase of Veritas products is classed as non-hazardous waste.
It is your responsibility to arrange and pay for costs of collection and transportation to the recycler. Under Spanish waste management procedures, you are free to use any carrier you wish to collect and transport non-hazardous WEEE to the EARN recycler, providing the weight of equipment to be transported is less than 1000 kg.

Collection and Recycling Arrangements in Switzerland
The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive is a European Directive which requires producers to make arrangements for the collection and recycling of WEEE. The Directive is transposed into national law by EU Member States. Switzerland is not a member of the European Union or of the European Economic Area, and therefore has no obligation to follow EU policy.
Producer responsibility for the take-back of electrical and electronic equipment in Switzerland is covered by the Ordinance on the Return, Take-back and Disposal of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (ORDEE). The Ordinance came into force on July 1st 1998 and an amendment came into force in January 2005 which extended the scope of the Ordinance to increase the number of categories of electrical and electronic equipment which are covered.
The requirements of ORDEE are different from the requirements of the WEEE Directive. However, ORDEE does place a requirement on Veritas to provide collection and recycling of IT equipment which Veritas sells in Switzerland when this becomes waste.
The Swiss authorities have approved three collective compliance schemes, SENS, SWICO and SLRS which between them account for all WEEE collection and recycling in Switzerland. SWICO deals with IT and telecoms equipment, SENS deals with household appliances and SLRS deals with lamps and luminaires.
For IT equipment which is sold by Veritas and has become waste, Veritas has joined compliance scheme SWICO to provide collection and recycling of these types of products. The customer should contact SWICO directly to arrange collection and transport of the waste equipment:

To comply with the UK Duty of Care Regulations the transport of your waste to the recycler must be accompanied by suitable documentation. You must also keep a signed copy of this documentation for two years.

Recycling Label for British Customers
Customer shall exclusively finance the collection and delivery of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) as required by the Directive 2002/96/EC and applicable law.
This requirement applies to all new electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) sold by Veritas after 13 August 2005 (known as new WEEE), as well as all EEE sold before 13 August 2005 (known as historic WEEE) which becomes waste as a result of a purchase of new EEE from Veritas after August 2005.
If Customer resells the EEE to a third party, Customer will be responsible for conveying these requirements to that third party purchaser. If the Customer does not convey these requirements to the third party purchaser, the Customer shall be responsible for any damages caused to Veritas and thinkstep (as the operator of B2BWEEE-Scheme).
