Each holiday season, Veritas employees support their communities in different ways. From November 15 – December 15, employees were encouraged to collectively do good by helping communities around the world through an employee challenge that encourages extra acts of kindness.
Every donation, volunteer time, kudos that they give a colleague, counts as an extra act of kindness. These good deeds have collectively grown through the Veritas extra acts of kindness challenge.
Our women employee resource group, WAVE (Women at Veritas Empowered), specifically hosted different events around the world to give back during this time of year, while also networking and getting to know other members within the group. WAVE California members really wanted to network with each other more and to give back to the community, echoing Veritas’ values of collaboration and giving back to local communities. On Wednesday, November 29, 2023, members of WAVE – California held their first event of the year - a toy drive & potluck! Members gathered via Zoom and at the Santa Clara, California office for a fun networking lunch, where each member brought a toy that they felt their 10-year-old self would like. Many shared stories about building things with Legos, playing Barbies with siblings, and many more childhood stories, while others learned about new toys, like LeapFrog Top-Touch computers for education at an early age being similar to a “baby’s first laptop.” There were over a dozen toys donated to Toys for Tots, and WAVE California thanks Veritas for matching the in-kind donations through the Giving Station.
The WAVE UK team volunteered their time at a local charity – The Cowshed Charity who provides support to people of all backgrounds in a time of personal crisis. The aim of The Cowshed is to provide good quality cleaned and ironed clothes and other essentials free to anyone in need. The team spent their day dedicated to a range of activities from cleaning clothes, shoes, and pushchairs; to sorting children’s books and organizing stock rooms. It was a busy but incredibly rewarding day for the whole team. One of the most striking aspects of the day at The Cowshed Charity was the sense of teamwork and unity among the volunteers. They came from diverse backgrounds, yet they shared a common goal—to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. The collaborative spirit was evident in every task, making the experience not just rewarding but also a celebration of collective effort.
This year, the main theme for WAVE Beijing is giving back to community, which fit perfectly into the extra acts of kindness challenge during the holiday season. The team worked with a local autistic children rehabilitation institution to launch a long-term program about autistic children companionship. Volunteers have had the opportunity to play with children and attend to their needs. The team of volunteers very much loved the chances to connect with the children by slowly gaining their trust, from total strangers with no interaction at all, to finally build a vested connection.
Additionally, WAVE Beijing launched a book donation event that lasted 2 weeks to collect books for a local rural school. The team collected 481 books to donate. Way to go WAVE Beijing!
The WAVE Heathrow team volunteered at a local community garden. They cleaned up, weeded, and planted some flowers. Overall, the event was a huge success and the team enjoyed networking, giving back to their community, and enjoying the nice weather.
We want to thank all our WAVE members for their participation and support of the Extra Acts of Kindness challenge this year. Learn more how Veritas encourages and supports every employee to give back to their community here.
