Managing tasks

Once the Information Map Agent is configured, you can configure one or more tasks.

Tasks handle collection of metadata from your NetBackup master server(s) or cloud data sources. Every task runs under an Agent.

You must configure one task per NetBackup master server or Amazon cloud resource that you want the Agent to pull data from.

The Tasks page of the Administration portal displays the following:

  • The name of the NetBackup master server (Task target) that is being scanned.

  • The type of task. The task type can be NetBackup Collection or Amazon S3 Collection, as the case may be.

  • The name of the Agent server that is running the task.

On the Tasks page, you can do the following:

  • Add a new task.

  • Edit the schedule of a configured task.

  • Delete a task.

To add a new task

  1. On the vertical navigation panel in the Information Map application, expand the Administration section and click Tasks > New.
  2. On the New Task panel, enter the following details:

If configuring a NetBackup master server as the task target-

    • The fully qualified domain name of the NetBackup master server.

    • The Information Map Agent that is configured to perform the task of collecting the metadata.

    • The credentials required to discover local shares on the CIFS server/filer.

    • The credentials required to discover NFS shares/filer.

If configuring a Amazon S3 cloud account as the task target-

    • Select Amazon S3 Collection as the connection type.

    • The display name.

    • The External ID as configured when creating a role on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Management Console

    • The Amazon Resource Name (ARN) as configured on the AWS console

The task runs on a time schedule which is always defined in terms of the local time at the Information Map Agent's location. It is normal to schedule metadata collection for times when NetBackup is not backing-up your systems.

To edit the task schedule

  1. On the Tasks page, click Edit..
  2. In the Collection schedule widget, click a box to indicate the day and time for the metadata collection. The time zone of the server is indicated on the panel.
  3. Click Save.

The default schedule is 7:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. each day of the week.

Note:

You can only edit the schedule for NetBackup tasks. You cannot control the Amazon S3 task schedule.
