After attaching an external zip drive on a system with VERITAS Volume Manager (tm) for Windows or VERITAS Storage Foundations (tm) for Windows, a VxSvc alert error may appear.

Problem

After attaching an external zip drive on a system with VERITAS Volume Manager (tm) for Windows or VERITAS Storage Foundations (tm) for Windows, a VxSvc alert error may appear.

Error Message

VxSvc_Alert pnp provider reported physical disk \Device\Harddisk 1 was removed or is temporarily unavailable.

Solution

Volume Manager does not support creating dynamic disks with external zip drives. On certain occasions, if an external zip drive is installed without having a disk within the zip drive, the error "A Harddisk was Removed" or "A Harddisk is Temporarily Unavailable" will appear. There is no workaround for this message as this type of device is not supported by Volume Manager or Storage Foundation.
