Problem

When attempting to backup a remote computer the job fails with the following error: V-79-57344-38730 - Backup Exec failed to authenticate with virtual machine 'SERVERNAME'.

 

Error Message

Backup- SERVERNAME
V-79-57344-38730 - Backup Exec failed to authenticate with virtual machine 'SERVERNAME' and was unable to collect the necessary metadata to restore individual application items. You cannot perform GRT-enabled restores of application data from this backup.

Cause


The account specified in the backup job does not have all the necessary rights needed for the backup.

 

 

Solution

Make sure the backup account has the following rights on all machines to be backed up.  This includes all virtual machines for AVVI and Hyper-V backups.
  • Act as part of the operating system
  • Create a token object.
  • Back up files and directories.
  • Restore files and directories.
  • Managed auditing and security log.
  • Logon as a batch job (only for Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 2008).
