BUG REPORT: Under rare circumstances, files and folders may appear to be missing or appear to have been backed up from the wrong location when browsing for Sharepoint granular images.

Solution

Introduction:
Under rare circumstances, files and folders may appear to be missing or appear to have been backed up from the wrong location when browsing for Sharepoint granular images.

What is affected:
The following versions of NetBackup are potentially affected, on all supported Windows client platforms:
  • NetBackup Sharepoint Agent version 6.5.4 backing up Sharepoint Server 2003
  • NetBackup Sharepoint Agent version 6.5.4 backing up Sharepoint Server 2007
Note: Data is not lost in this case.  This is only a display issue during the restore process.  This issue does not affect the data in the backup set, only the way it appears in the restore view.

How to Determine if Affected:
If policies have the 'Enable granular recovery' attribute enabled, then this issue has been known to be present with the images created by that policy in rare cases..
This document is a notification of how to proceed in the event that this issue is encountered. It is important to note that as of this writing, this issue is deemed to be rare/unlikely and has not yet been reproducible by Veritas.

This condition occurs when launching the Backup, Archive and Restore GUI to browse for Sharepoint images.  It can manifest itself in any of the following ways:
  • Files and folders are missing (i.e. not available to be selected for restore.)
  • Files can appear to have been backed up as folders (directories.)
  • Folders (directories) can appear to have been backed up as files.
  • Files can appear to have been backed up under directories where they, in fact, do not reside.

Formal Resolution:
The formal resolution to this issue (Etrack 1730632) is included in the following patch release:
  • NetBackup 6.5 Release Update 5 (6.5.5)
This release is available from the support web site at:
  https://www.veritas.com/business/support/downloads.jsp?pid=15143

Workaround:
A full database restore from the granular backup image will work.
