SQLServr.exe and SQLAgent.exe files do not appear to be backed up from a Windows 2008 server running Microsoft SQL Server 2008.
On a Windows 2008 server, these executable files are part of the System State and are therefore protected by a System State backup. By design, Backup Exec operates an Active File Exclusion because the files are part of the System State. As such they will not be backed up as part of a File System backup and in a similar manner to any files limited by an Active File Exclusion no entry is reported in the backup job logs regarding the omission.
- The issue does not affect the ability to restore data that has been backed up using the Backup Exec SQL Agent that is contained in the SQL databases.
- If performing a complete recovery of the server, restoring the System State will recover the files
