Upgrading from Storage Foundation for Windows and High Availability (SFWHA) or Veritas Cluster Server (VCS) 5.0 RP1a or RP2 to 5.1 Service Pack 1 (SP1) the installer may stop with this error "Another version of this product is already installed."

Problem

Upgrading from Storage Foundation for Windows and High Availability (SFWHA) or Veritas Cluster Server (VCS) 5.0 RP1a or RP2 to 5.1 Service Pack 1 (SP1) the installer may stop with this error "Another version of this product is already installed."

Error Message

Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel.

Solution

While upgrading SFWHA or VCS from 5.0 RP1a or RP2 to 5.1 SP1, the installation fails with the following error:

Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel.

Note: This issue only occurs on IA64 Windows 2003 operating systems.

Installation Instructions:

Download this patch from the link below and save to a temporary folder:

Install this patch only if you are upgrading from 5.0 RP1a or RP2 to 5.1 SP1. Install this patch before you run the installer to upgrade your cluster.

Note: This patch is not needed for any other upgrade cases.

If you ran the installer without installing this patch, then after the installer fails with this error, close the installer, install this patch, and then launch the installer again to perform the upgrade.

1. Copy the VxSS.dll file (Version: 5.1.10001.44) to the following directory on the product installer discs:
<SFW HA - Win 64 DVD>InstallerVxSS
<VCS for Windows - Win 64 DVD>InstallerVxSS This will replace the existing version of the file in the respective directories.
2. After replacing the file, proceed with the upgrade tasks.
