Not able to catalog a Backup-to-Disk *.BKF file; ERROR = 0XE0008114 (E_PVL_CHANGER_NOT_AVAILABLE)

Problem

Not able to catalog/restore data from a Backup-to-Disk *.BKF file

Error Message

Running an SGMON enabling Device and Media debugging shows the following:

Cause

Backup Exec for Windows server job engine crashed while writing data to a *.BKF file used by the B2D.

Solution

  1. Create a new B2D folder 
  2. Delete within Online or Offline media under the media tab any of the *.BKF files that is to be used to perform this restore. 
  3. Run an inventory on this new B2D (should show nothing) 
  4. Add one at a time a *.BKF file and re-run the inventory again 
  5. If the inventory fails, remove the last *.BKF file that was inserted and re-run the inventory to be sure it is still functioning (once the offending *.BKF file has been removed). 
  6. Once all of the *.BKF files that can be inventory has been accomplished, run a new catalog job to build restore selections.
