Additional Details release details:

This release offers new NetBackup BMRboot server and client support for Solaris
10 X64 client platforms.

NetBackup 6.5.5 provides support for a new update to the Windows operating
system family - Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7. The NetBackup client
provides the basic functionality that enables you to protect these new operating
systems with the 6.5.5 release and beyond. A more complete support offering,
that includes master and media server support, is provided in the NetBackup 7.0

Besides basic file system protection, the following new Windows 2008 R2
features are protected with the NetBackup 6.5.5 release:
¦ Express Writers
Microsoft has introduced new Express Writers API's in Windows 2008 R2
server and Windows 7 client. Several new writers have been created using
these API's. NetBackup provides support for these authorized writers, each
of which appears under the System State node.
The new writers are the following:
- Performance Counter Writer
- Task Scheduler Writer
- VSS Express Writer Metadata Store Writer
¦ Unnamed Partitions
In Windows 2008 R2 / Windows 7 the operating system, boot files may
reside on an unnamed partition. That happens if you install the Windows
7 operating system to an un-partitioned disk. The location of the boot files
is provided to use by the ASR writer BCD component. NetBackup backs up
the operating system boot files if they reside on an unnamed partition.
¦ Virtual hard drives
Microsoft provides an easier way of creating virtual disks on Windows 2008
R2 and Windows 7 systems. That is called the native VHD support. Each
of the virtual disks is created as a .VHD file on any of the physical disk
The NetBackup client supports the ability to back up and restore the virtual
volumes that surface from the virtual disks. If a mounted VHD is included
in the backup, the actual .vhd file is excluded from the backup so that the
data is not backed up twice.
