BUG REPORT: After upgrading to 6.5.4, Backups fail with Status 130 "system error occurred" and bpfis.exe generates a fault.

Solution

Bug: 1822074


Overview:
After upgrading to 6.5.4, Backups fail with Status 130 "system error occurred" and bpfis.exe generates a fault.
This has been seen if a server has a long hostname (such as > 15 characters) and using bpfis.exe for frozen image functionality.


Log Files:
An application fault can be found in Application Event Viewer log:
Application Error E1000 Faulting application bpfis.exe, version 6.5.2009.430, faulting module libfi_vss_writer.dll, version 6.5.2009.430, fault address 0x00000000000136b8.

Additionally, The bpfis log will abruptly stop logging during backup.


Workaround:
There is currently no workaround for this issue.  Please contact Symantec technical support, referencing this TechNote ID and Etrack 1822074 to obtain a fix for this issue.

Symantec has acknowledged that the above-mentioned issue (Etrack 1822090) is present in the current version(s) of the product(s) mentioned at the end of this article. Symantec Corporation is committed to product quality and satisfied customers. This issue is currently being considered by Symantec Corporation to be in a forthcoming Release Update of the product.

Please note that if an emergency fix is obtained for this issue, it is suggested to contact Technical Services prior to upgrading to 6.5.5 to avoid any loss of functionality.
