BUG REPORT: Solaris sun4v clients cannot be registered to the Bare Metal Restore (BMR) DB after upgrading to 6.5.4. As a result, backup jobs end in a Status 1.

Problem

BUG REPORT: Solaris sun4v clients cannot be registered to the Bare Metal Restore (BMR) DB after upgrading to 6.5.4. As a result, backup jobs end in a Status 1.

Error Message

BMRERR: Received BMR error: Failed to discover System. (1)
BMRERR: Received BMR error: BMR information discovery failed. (1)

Solution

Problem Statement:
Solaris sun4v clients cannot be registered to the Bare Metal Restore (BMR) DB.  As a result, backup jobs end in a Status 1 (the requested operation was partially successful) and BMR info is not collected.


Troubleshooting:
Job Details show the following:
5/31/2009 2:00:12 PM - Error bpbrm(pid=10559) BMRERR: Received BMR error: Failed to discover System. (1)
5/31/2009 2:00:12 PM - Error bpbrm(pid=10559) BMRERR: Received BMR error: BMR information discovery failed. (1)
5/31/2009 2:00:12 PM - Error bpbrm(pid=10559) BMRERR: Did not receive bmr client request from <client>, status = 0

Review the client's bmrsavecfg.log which is originator id 121.

bmrsavecfg log:
06/30/09 09:50:29.899 [CSystemAgent.cpp:discover()] Failed verifying OS support for 5.10.
06/30/09 09:50:29.900 [CBmrSaveCfg::discover()] sysAgent->discover failed, rc=4
06/30/09 09:50:29.900 [Error] V-121-12 Failed to discover System.
06/30/09 09:50:29.923 [Error] V-121-35 BMR information discovery failed.


Workaround:
There is currently no workaround which will allow the registration of the client or an update to an existing BMR DB for this client.  

Please contact Symantec technical support, referencing this TechNote ID and Etrack 1703721 to obtain a fix for this issue.  If applicable, also ensure that fix 1724279 is obtained, which addresses the Prepare to Restore (P2R) issue described in the related documents section, below.


ETA of Fix:
Symantec has acknowledged that the above mentioned issue (Etrack 1704342) is present in the current version(s) of the product(s) mentioned at the end of this article.  Symantec is committed to product quality and satisfied customers.  This issue is currently scheduled to be addressed the following release update.
