The message body is corrupt when attempting to view an archived read receipt message in Outlook.

When double-clicking on an archived read receipt in Outlook to view the message the message body may not display properly.   The body of the message can appear as blocks and is unreadable.  

1.  The message can be restored to Outlook and then viewed properly.  

2.  The item can be read in the Reading Pane of Outlook if the shortcut includes the message body, or the Message characters to include value on the Shortcut Content tab of the Mailbox policy is high enough to display the entire message.  

3.  If Outlook Web Access (OWA) is being used and Enterprise Vault has been configured for OWA then the message can be viewed in OWA properly without restoring the item.  



Symantec Corporation has acknowledged that the above-mentioned issue is present in the version(s) of the product(s) referenced in this article. There are currently no plans to address this issue by way of a cumulative hotfix or service pack in the current or previous versions of the software at the present time. This issue may be resolved in a future major revision of the software at a later time, but is not scheduled for any release.
