Certain Exchange 2007 journal messages are being moved to the Failed To Copy folder

Problem

This particular issue has been seen on environments that have Exchange 2007 users and an Exchange 2007 journaling rule pointing to an Exchange 2003 Mailbox.

Error Message

Event ID 3372
Category - Journal Task
Description - The following message could not be archived as it seems to have an invalid envelope body.
Title: BadMail
Mailbox: /O=EG/OU=EG/CN=RECIPIENTS/CN=JOURNALMBX
The message has been moved to 'Enterprise Vault Journaling Service\Failed to Copy' folder

Cause

HOW TO DETERMINE IF THE ISSUE IS THE SAME

1. Open the Journal Mailbox
2. Open the Failed to Copy Folder
3. Ensure that Preview Pane is selected
4. Select the offending Message
5. Looking at the preview the information should be as follows:-
Sender: John.Doe@domain.com
Subject: Bad Mail
Message-ID: <Randomly Generated Message ID>
6. In the offending mail if the Message-ID is actually showing as PrevMsg-ID then the issue has been confirmed

Solution

Veritas Technologies LLC has acknowledged that the above-mentioned issue is present in the current version(s) listed under the Product(s) Section of this article. Veritas Technologies LLC is committed to product quality and satisfied customers.
 
There are currently no plans to address this issue by way of a patch or hotfix in the current or previous versions of the software at the present time. This issue may be resolved in a future major revision of the software at a later time.
