Solaris 8 system panics or hangs while installing 5.0MP3RP1, during patchadd of # 139352-02

Solution

ISSUE:
System panics or hangs while installing 5.0MP3RP1, during patchadd of # 139352-02. This is only applicable to Solaris 8 systems.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
VxVM 5.0MP3RP1 (139352-02) postinstall script executes 'rem_drv vxdmp' which panics or hangs the system whilst unloading the module.
Please refer to technote # 322815 for additional information on the problem and install instructions.


CAUSE:
The problem is tracked via e1190516 and is targeted to be fixed in Volume Manager 5.0MP3RP2.


WORKAROUND:
Symantec support has modified VM 5.0MP3RP1 patch (139352-02) to get rid of the rem_drv command.  It would prevent the panics and hangs on Solaris-8 systems.

This technote has modified VM5.0MP3RP1 patch (139352-02).
