Problem

BUG REPORT: Large FullVM Snapshots using VMware Consolidated Backups (VCB) are slower than expected.

Solution

Bug:  1598843

Overview:
In some environments, performing a FullVM Snapshot of a large VM may be excessively slow. This occurs when the NTFS File system is handling large files.  vcbmounter has an option (-M 0) to split VMDK files into several 2GB files.  NetBackup does not provide an option to use "-M 0".  The default call is for "-M 1", which uses a single monolithic file.

ETA of Fix:
The formal resolution to this issue (Etrack 1598843) is included in the following patch release:
  • NetBackup 6.5 Release Update 5 (6.5.5)
This release is available from the support web site at the following link:

Workaround:
There is no workaround for this issue.
