Problem

Backup Exec Alert: Job Cancellation appears in Backup Exec.

Error Message

The following Event ID is logged in the Event Viewer Application Log after a job is canceled by the user in Backup Exec.

Description:
Backup Exec Alert: Job Cancellation
(Server: 'ServerName') (Job: 'JobName') The job was canceled by user DOMAIN\Username
 
A Job Cancellation alert is also displayed in the Backup Exec console. This alert is generated after the job has been canceled by the user. (Figure 2).

Cause

This alert may be generated by Backup Exec if:

  1. User cancelled an active job from the Backup Exec user interface.
  2. If the job was cancelled due to one or more Backup Exec services failing/restarting while the job in question was active.

Solution

If a use cancelled the active job, this alert can be ignored and no further troubleshooting may be required.
 
If the job was cancelled due to one or more Backup Exec services failing/restarting while the job in question was active:
  1. Check Windows Services Console to identify if there was a service failure.
  2. Check Windows Event Viewer to identify any errors related to the services failure.
  3. In case a service failure (error) is reported in Event Viewer, attempt to search for a solution within the Knowledge Base.
