How to configure iptables for Remote Agent for Linux/Unix Servers (RALUS)

Solution

1. Check if there is iptables configured on the Unix Server using command: iptables -L

2. Try to telnet the Unix server from Media server on port 10000 as shown in the Figure 1.

# telnet <Unix Server IP> 10000

3. If this fails, please check if there is any firewall or iptables configured on Unix server as mentioned in Step 1.

4. Please open the ports required for Backup Exec to work, for instance, port 10000 as shown in Figure 2.

# iptables -A INPUT -s <Media Server IP> -d <Unix Server IP> -p tcp --dport 10000 -j ACCEPT

5. Please save the iptables configurations using command: service iptables save as shown in Figure 2 above.

6. Restart the iptables service as shown in Figure 3.

# service iptables restart

7. View the iptables entries using iptables -L to confirm the entry that was made as shown in Figure 4.
