Backup or restore job fails with Final error: 0xe00084ed - A hardware error has occurred.

Backup job to Robotic Library fails with error as shown in Figure 1:

If Backup Exec reports the above mentioned error, a hardware level SCSI error is likely to have occurred. Often the Event Viewer will contain additional errors that will help to determine where the problem lies.

If the error persists, please contact the hardware vendor for additional assistance. They have utilities and device specific configurations that they can recommend to get the hardware functioning properly, and are the best source of information in determining if a device has failed to the point that it needs to be replaced.
