Problem

SQL backup fails with "Cannot open backup device "DBNAME". Operating system error 0x80070002 (The system cannot find the file specified.)

Error Message

Cannot open backup device "DBNAME". Operating system error 0x80070002 (The system cannot find the file specified.) / V-79-65323-3201 - Cannot open backup device 'LUBA_00__e8ac25bc_dccd_4025_8c76_230806fb2fbc_'. Operating system error 0x80070005(Access is denied.).

Solution

1. Download and install the hotfixes from Microsoft KB Article 934396.
 
FIX: Error messages and an event may be logged when you use the Virtual Device Interface in SQL Server 2005 or in SQL Server 2000 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934396
 
2. Backup Exec Service Account should have full Administrator rights & permission on SQL databases.
