Problem

BUG REPORT: The nbpem process may produce a core dump and exit reporting status code 25 (cannot connect on socket) when running backups on Tru64 or Linux 2.4 master servers.

Solution

Bugs:  
ET1398804 for the TRU64 operating system platform
ET1406060 for the Linux 2.4 operating system platform

Symptoms: When attempting to run any local filesystem backups on NetBackup master server on Tru64 or Linux 2.4, a core file may be produced and the backups will fail with a status code 25 (cannot connect on socket) reported.

Troubleshooting:
The problem can be confirmed by reviewing the bprd and bpbackup log files.

Examples of the errors are seen below:

The bpbackup log will show the process exiting with a status 25:

11:05:00.489 [23] <2> bpbackup: calling get_bprdESwto() sockfd = 4, timeout = 0

11:05:02.539 [23] <2> bpbackup: exit with status = 25

The bprd log will also show a status 25:
11:05:02.539 [24] <2> bkarfiles: Immediate backup failed (client = <master_name> user = root group = root): cannot connect on socket
11:05:02.539 [24] <2> mail_msg: entered; status = 25
11:05:02.539 [24] <2> mail_msg: BACKUP EXIT STATUS = 25
11:05:02.539 [24] <2> bkarfiles: lastfileentry = 0x8320ae0 userfilelist = 0x8320ae0
11:05:02.539 [24] <2> process_request: After bkarfiles(2)
11:05:02.539 [24] <2> process_request: EXIT STATUS 25

Workaround:
There is no workaround available.

Please apply the appropriate release update to resolve this issue.
