BUG REPORT: Administration consoles become sluggish and unresponsive while connected to an HP-UX master server which is also monitored by a NOM (NetBackup Operations Manager) server.

Solution

Bug: 1397478

Detail/Symptoms:
The administrative console interface (Java or Windows) becomes sluggish and unresponsive due to nbsl timeouts when connecting to a master server running HP-UX.

This issue has been found to occur in a HP-UX 11.23 IA-64 Environment with NOM (NetBackup Operations Manager) present somewhere in the NetBackup domain.  nbsl will leave too many file descriptors open when NOM is connecting to a HP-UX master. An examination of output from the lsof command run on the master reveals that too many file descriptors belonging to the nbsl process id (pid) are remaining open.

Entries similar to the following may be seen in the nbsl (OID 132) log:

Workaround:
nbsl may be stopped and restarted on the master; however, great care should be taken to ensure that doing this will not affect current operation.
