IV. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
=============================

NOTE: Click on the "Download Now" link, near the bottom of this document
prior to running the following installation procedure for this pack.

There are two ways to install database agent maintenance pack software.

1. Remote Installation: Loads the software on a master server with
the intent of pushing database software out to affected clients.

2. Local Installation: Loads and installs the software only to this
local machine.

---

Remote Installation:

Warning: Before installation - If production rman scripts are found in
the /usr/openv/netbackup/ext/db_ext/oracle/samples/rman, please save them
in another location to prevent them from being overwritten.

1. Log in as the Oracle user on the clients to receive the pack software
and shut down all Oracle instances. (Recommended)

Login as root on the NetBackup Master/Media server:

2. Install the Maintenance Pack binaries.

cd /tmp
/bin/sh Vrts_pack.install

Pick option 1 (Remote Installation) when prompted for the installation
method.

3. The pack install logs can be found in /usr/openv/pack/pack.history once the
installation is complete.

4. Run update_dbclients to push pack software affected database agent clients:

/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/update_dbclients Oracle ALL ALL

This command will look at all possible clients and only update and only
update the ones currently in Oracle policy type. For more information on
how to run update_dbclients, refer to the NetBackup for Oracle System
Administrator's Guide.

5. For every client to which you pushed the pack software in step 3, the
following steps must be performed:

5.1 Verify that Oracle Agent library is located in /usr/openv/netbackup/bin
directory.

5.2 Verify that library is visible to Oracle.
If $ORACLE_HOME/lib[32,64]/libobk.<platform extension> is a soft link to
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/libobk.<platform extension>
then library is visible to Oracle.

Perform step 5.3 only if library is not visible to Oracle.

5.3 Make the library visible to Oracle
Run /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/oracle_link script OR Perform manual linking.

For more information on how to manually link the library,
refer to Oracle System Administrator Guide.

5.4 Restart any Oracle instances. (Recommended)

----

Local Installation:

Warning: Before installation - If production rman scripts are found in
the /usr/openv/netbackup/ext/db_ext/oracle/samples/rman, please save them
in another location to prevent them from being overwritten.

1. Log in as the Oracle user and shut down all Oracle instances. (Recommended)

As root on the NetBackup for Oracle client:

2. Install the Maintenance Pack binaries.

cd /tmp
/bin/sh Vrts_pack.install

Pick option 2, Local Installation, when prompted.

This will install the updated NetBackup files for the Oracle library
in /usr/openv/netbackup/bin.

3. The pack install logs can be found in /usr/openv/pack/pack.history once the
installation is complete.

4. Verify that Oracle Agent library is located in
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin directory.

5. Verify that library is visible to Oracle.
If $ORACLE_HOME/lib[32,64]/libobk.<platform extension> is a soft link to
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/libobk.<platform extension> then library is
visible to Oracle.

Perform step 6 only if library is not visible to Oracle.

6. Make the library visible to Oracle
Run /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/oracle_link script OR
Perform manual linking.

For more information on how to manually link the library, refer to Oracle
System Administrator Guide.

7. Log in as the Oracle user and restart any Oracle instances. (Recommended.)

=========================
V. UNINSTALL INSTRUCTIONS
=========================
1) Close the NetBackup user interfaces.

If a database agent is being used, such as Oracle,
ensure that the database services are stopped.

2) Change directory to the patch save directory.
Substitute the pack name for ${PACK.EN_US} in the following command:

cd /usr/openv/pack/${PACK.EN_US}/save

3) Run the un-install script:

./Vrts_pack.uninstall

4) Verify that the pack uninstalled successfully by checking
/usr/openv/pack/pack.history.

5) Only if the pack was originally pushed to remote clients using
update_dbclients, re-run update_dbclients after the pack was
successfully uninstalled on the server to "push" the uninstall.

that comprises this Maintenance Pack. Please read this section thoroughly to
understand the contents of this update.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET1226883
Associated Primary Etrack = ET1226682
Titan cases: 230-501-996

Description:
Running the "bpubsora -U user/password -b Oracle:SID:" command in a 64-bit
configuration can results in a core file. The problem could also be
generated when attempting to connect to the Oracle database with the Backup
Archive and Restore (BAR) user interface.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET1224664
Associated Primary Etrack = ET1204253
Titan cases: 290-908-445

Description:
An Oracle RMAN restore would core dump when entering sbtread2. The Oracle
restore would run for a period of time (2 to 12 hours) before the failure.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET1294774

Description:
An error similar to the following was displayed when executing the
bporaexp, bporimp command or when accessing the Oracle node in the
Backup, Archive and Restore user interface.

contained in previous releases.

=============
NB_ORA_60_6_M
=============
Etrack Incident = ET1095133
Associated Primary Etrack = ET1075401
Titan cases: 220-099-852

Description:
When using the Oracle templates created with NetBackup, the
"NB_ORA_SCHED" parameter is not used when the actual RMAN commands
are executed.

This happens only for the first or initial subset of channel
allocations. Meaning, if the database is backed up, and then the
archive logs and the control file, the "NB_ORA_SCHED" parameter is
not used just for the database portion, it is also passed for the
archive logs and control file.

When the templates are converted to backup scripts, the "NB_ORA_SCHED"
parameter is present in all backup steps.

Workaround:
To resolve this issue, convert the Template to a script and use the
script in the policy.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET1173881

Description:
Oracle Block Level Incremental (BLI) backups would fail on a cluster
file system because the checkpoint could not be mounted.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

=============
NB_ORA_60_5_M
=============
Etrack Incident = ET570561
Associated Primary Etrack = ET808113
Titan cases: 240160597

Description:
This fix improves the performance of advanced method Oracle database
backups.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET863428
Associated Primary Etrack = ET806075
Titan cases: 280-518-572

Description:
The Oracle agent no longer ignores BPBACKUP_SCHED in the bp.conf file on
the client system.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET534732

Description:
A fix was added that resolves a UTF8 to GB18030 conversion problem in the
Oracle XML Archiver agent in which GB18030 strings were being truncated.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET427447

Description:
In the NetBackup Oracle client restore user interface, an incorrect restore
may occur if you select the "Point In Time rollback" restore type, go
through the restore wizard and supply a tag to the "backup set identifier"
field, and then run the restore. The result is it restores from the latest
backup instead of restoring from the backup with the supplied backup set.

In addition, if you choose to save it as template, the key words
"from tag ..." are missing from RMAN RUN statement in the template. And
if you choose to run the restore from a normal backup, the tag field works
as expected.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET799779
Associated Primary Etrack = ET799774
Titan cases: 290-174-274

Description:
The recovery manager (RMAN) catalog maintenance functions were taking too
long and using excessive resources on the master server.

Additional Notes:
To ensure a faster search for catalog entries, use a %t on the format
parameter during an Oracle backup.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET923486
Associated Primary Etrack = ET922740
Titan cases: 290-502-581

Description:
jbpSA/bpubsbora would produce a segmentation fault when the oratab file had
more than 50 valid entries.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET937829

Description:
Accessing the Oracle wizard though the BAR Java user interface causes an
error box to appear with the following messages after clicking on the
"Oracle" node.

Description:
Added support for compressed backups to Oracle & MSSQL.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET995110
Associated Primary Etrack = ET983973
Titan cases: 280-987-773

Description:
Because of changes in Oracle10gR2, multi-streamed backups will restore using
one stream.

Workaround:
To avoid this issue, use the RMAN syntax: "SET PARALLELMEDIARESTORE OFF;".
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET996117
Associated Primary Etrack = ET990855
Titan cases: 220-092-720

system after a failed Oracle BLI backup.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

=============
NB_ORA_60_4_M
=============
Etrack Incident = ET609197

Description:
Oracle, DB2, and XBSA aplication programmer interface (API) agents
(such as, Teradata) performing shared memory backups (that is, the media
server and the client are the same machine) or restores were using
excessive CPU resources on Linux. Changes have been added to address
this issue.

The database agents debug log shows high "delayed" counts:

08:54:33.385 [4799] <4> CleanUpShM: INF - dbclient waited 40577 times for
emptybuffer, delayed 227209505 times
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET527990

Description:
Added error detection for Oracle restores that would fail because of
corruption.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET643841

Description:
A Recovery Manager (RMAN) restore could not be redirected to an Oracle
instance owned by a different Oracle user.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET784650

Description:
NetBackup communication between components that were separated by a
firewall did not work. For instance, when a master server was behind the
firewall and a media server was outside the firewall, all communication
from the master server had an internal host address that was not accessible
from outside systems.

This is the same when clients and other services are in question.

Additional Notes:
To activate NAT address replacement, systems outside of the firewall should
have the FIREWALL_IN parameter specified in their bp.conf/registry.

Format: FIREWALL_IN=hostname1,nat_address1|hostname2,nat_address2|...

Where: <hostname> is the name of the host system that needs to be accessed
and <nat_address> is the actual NAT address for the firewall to do
forwarding.
