II.  KNOWN ISSUES
=================

This section contains known issues with this maintenance pack that have not
yet been fixed in NetBackup.  These issues will likely be fixed in future
Maintenance Packs for this version of NetBackup.

+  (ET1414781) An uninstall issue exists making it impossible for you to revert
to the previously installed version of the NetBackup Java Windows Display
Console unless you perform one of the following workarounds.
  -  Before you begin to uninstall NetBackup, you can save the VERITAS\Java\jre
directory to another location and copy its contents back from the saved
location after the uninstall is complete.
  -  Before you begin to uninstall NetBackup, you can manually back up the
VERITAS\Java\jre directory and restore it after the uninstall is complete.
  -  After you have uninstalled NetBackup, you can copy the contents of the
VERITAS\java\jre directory from another machine that has the Veritas
NetBackup Java Windows Display Console installed.

NB_JAV_60_6_M
=============
Etrack Incident = ET1096255

Description:
When a drive from a back-level media server is deleted from the
NetBackup-Java Administration Console on UNIX and Windows, the wrong
   drive can be deleted.

Workaround:
If the drive indices do not match between the NetBackup 5.x media server
and the NetBackup 6.x master server, the best way to reliably and safely
delete the drive is to use the following variation of tpconfig command
   on the 5.x media server:

     tpconfig -delete –drive -asciiname <asciidrvname>
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET1113358

Description:
Dissimilar Disk Restore (DDR) on Linux would fail under some rare
   circumstances.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET1067652

Description:
On the NetBackup-Java Administration Console, while configuring a
catalog backup policy on the Disaster Recovery tab, the password would
not be saved in change mode.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET1039772
Associated Primary Etrack = ET1015931
Titan cases:  230-328-570

Description:

If a user opened the New storage unit dialog or the Change storage
unit dialog from the NetBackup-Java Administration Console in Windows
and UNIX, the device configuration information would not be cached.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET1115060
Associated Primary Etrack = ET1101477
Titan cases:  240-570-206

Description:
The user interface is unable to retain changes to the UI layout when
running multiple versions of the NetBackup-Java Administration Console.

This occurs because all versions of the user interface store preferences
data at a common location ('HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JavaSoft\Prefs'
on Windows and '~/.java/.userPrefs' on UNIX).

The user interface will now store preferences data at
   %USERPROFILE%/Application Data/Veritas/java/{NB_RELEASE.EN_US} on Windows and
   ~/.veritas/java/{NB_RELEASE.EN_US} on UNIX.

Additional Notes:
Symantec recommends that you use "migrate.bat" to migrate existing
preferences from the registry to the file system.  For UNIX, please copy
   ~/.java/.userPrefs/* to ~/.veritas/java/{NB_RELEASE.EN_US}/*.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET1135357
Associated Primary Etrack = ET1018561
Titan cases:  290-695-012

Description:
The NetBackup-Java Administration Console had connectivity problems
with the NetBackup server in certain types of network environments.
To resolve this, the following configuration parameters have been
exposed in /usr/openv/java/nbj.conf (UNIX) or VERITAS\Java\nbj.conf
   (Windows).

   FIREWALL_IN [configures NAT address replacement]
   -----------------------------------------------
It now supports regular expressions (* and ?) that enable you to
define dynamic (many-to-one) NAT address mappings. Previously, you
could only define static (one-to-one) mappings.

   REQUIRED_NETWORK [configures multi network hosts]
   ------------------------------------------------
If any address in the profile does not belong to the REQUIRED_NETWORK,
   it is discarded.

   REQUIRED_INTERFACE [configures multi-homed hosts]
   ------------------------------------------------
This parameter enables you to specify the interface to be used by the
NetBackup-Java Administration Console for making outbound connections.

Symantec recommends that you use IP addresses and not hostnames while
   writing FIREWALL_IN, REQUIRED_NETWORK and REQUIRED_INTERFACE values.

   NBJAVA_CORBA_DEFAULT_TIMEOUT
   ----------------------------
This parameter can be used to change corba timeouts. Users should
specify a value in seconds. The default value is 60 seconds.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET1137877
Associated Primary Etrack = ET1119852
Titan cases:  220-097-727

Description:
Changes were made to address performance issues with the following
areas of the NetBackup-Java Administration Console.

   - Client Attributes listing in the "Host Properties" module for a
        master server
   - Client Attribute update in the "Host Properties" module for a
        master server
   - Storage Unit listing
   - Rendering of the Create/Change/Copy Storage Unit dialog
   - Robot listing
   - Rendering of the Robot Properties dialog
   - Rendering of the Robot Inventory dialog
   - The Start Robot Inventory operation
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET1173731

Description:
The NetBackup Administration Console for Windows would display an
error on the Processes tab in the Activity Monitor, when there were
multiple child processes for a daemon.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET1179942
Associated Primary Etrack = ET1131280
Titan cases:  220-107-289

Description:
The NetBackup-Java Administration Console by default requests data
from the EMM server every 30 seconds. This would overload the EMM node
in some environments with multiple user interfaces running.

Changes have been made to decrease the load on the EMM server by
resetting the default refresh rates for the device monitor.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

=============
NB_JAV_60_5_M
=============
Etrack Incident = ET591435

Description:
The Nearstore storage unit only allows backups to volumes where the
image mode of the backup that is being written matches other images
currently on that volume. The user interface would populate volumes
based on the type of selection. The selection of checkboxes would decide
which mode the backups to that storage unit would be backed up as. The
two checkboxes are "enable block sharing" and "enable file system export".
The possible combinations of checkboxes and what mode that combination
   enables are :

   - If neither box is checked - display volumes associated to "image mode".
   - If the "enable block sharing" button is checked but the "enable file
system sharing" box is NOT checked - display the volumes associated
to the "SOI( Space Optimized Image )mode"
   - If both the "enable block sharing" and the "enable file system export"
box are checked - display the volumes associated to the "file system
       export" mode
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET862198

Description:
Support was added to allow usernames with spaces in the "Authorization"
   node of Host Properties.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET862203

Description:
The NetBackup-Java Administration Console freezes when the help button on
the Advanced Options Dialog of Volume Configuration Wizard is clicked.

Workaround:
To avoid this issue, pass the parent of the Advanced Options dialog's
window as the parent of the Help topic display window.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET862206

Description:
In the licensing user interface, the icons to indicate an Active or
   Inactive state would appear intermittently.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET862212

Description:
The jnbSA frame header would erroneously report Evaluation, even when
it is not an Evaluation license.

Additional Notes:
A false condition checking was being performed to determine if the
license is an Evaluation. This conditions has been corrected.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET862676

Description:
Dissimilar Disk Restore (DDR) mapping operations did not give the user
a disk selection of the desired disk if the original configuration
contained a slice that was more than half the disk in size and that
slice contained multiple SVM devices (database replicas and SVM volume).
The mapping operation works correctly for the database replicas because
of their small size, however it fails for the metadevice volume that
consumes the rest of the slice. This is on Solaris 9 client
   configurations using SVM.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET862999
Associated Primary Etrack = ET808570

Description:
The Java user interface currently accepts passwords that contain only
UTF-7 characters.  A change has bee added to allow usage of UTF-16
   characters.

Workaround:
To avoid this issue, use a password policy that allows only UTF-7
   characters.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET863267

Description:
Unable to login to the NetBackup Administration Console on Windows if
the user name contains a \" \" (space) character.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET863902

Description:
In the NetBackup License Keys dialog, in the user interface, problems
have been fixed when updating the information after adding and deleting
a license key, or after a Change Server operation.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET864001

Description:
For the NetBackup-Java Administration Console running in a
non-English locale, a problem causing the "New Vault Profile"
and "Vault Management Properties" dialogs to hang has been
   fixed.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET508698

Description:
The Lotus Notes tab in Restore dialog of NetBackup-Java Administration
Console refers to a group of controls as Recovery Options.  The
documentation and the NetBackup Administration Console for Windows refer
to the same as "Restore Options".  A change has been made so that the
NetBackup-Java Administration Console also displays the grouping with
   Restore Options title.

Additional Notes:
In addition, changed the "Recovery options" string to "Restore options".
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET865809

Description:
BPCD_EXECUTE_CMD_IMMEDIATE  could be used to invoke the
bpcr_immed_cmd_rqst() interface.  This protocol is not used by the
Java client and therefore, has been disabled for security reasons.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET866383

Description:
Changes were made to the retention levels in Host Properties to resolve
issues that effected the Retention mapping settings in Vault. This change
corrects a potential data loss issue for Vault customers who use the Vault
retention mappings feature via the user interface. For additional
information, refer to TechNote 282996, on the Symantec Support Web site.

Workaround:
To avoid this issue, disable the use of the Vault retention mappings.

Additional Notes:
This is a data loss issue that could cause vaulted media to expire sooner
than might be expected. Again, refer to TechNote 282996 for additional
   details.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET563884

Description:
If changes are made in the Change Drive Dialog, on the NetBackup-Java
Administration Console, NetBackup will now prompt for the Media Manager
device daemon to restart on all effected device hosts.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET858158

Description:
The NetBackup-Java Administration Console, Devices user interface now
shows a single confirm/delete dialog when a user tries to delete
   multiple robots.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET858159

Description:
The NetBackup-Java Administration Console Devices, Devices user
interface now shows a single dialog that prompts LTID on all effected
   device hosts when deleting robots/drives.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET818262

Description:
The NetBackup-Java Administration Console, Device Configuration Wizard
no longer prompts to add Storage Units for Storage Devices that already
have Storage Units associated with them.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET776266

Description:
The NetBackup-Java Administration Console, Storage Unit Management
no longer shows deleted Storage Units as a part of Storage Unit
Groups. Earlier users had to refresh the Storage Unit Groups to get
   updated information.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET422943

Description:
The Security string in Permissions tab of the Access Management’s
New/Change User Group dialog was not internationalized.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET422941

Description:
The permission set names were different between the online help and
   the user interface.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET855880

Description:
The "Duplicate smaller images first" option was not working for
   tape-to-tape duplication.

Additional Notes:
The "Duplicate smaller images first" option in Vault Profile dialog
   is only for disk duplication.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Etrack Incident = ET925101

Description:
The NetBackup-Java Administration Console uses 3rd-party JClass
components for spinners.  The JClass components are having logging

Description:
The NetBackup-Java Administration Console now exposes a configurable
parameter for use in environments that utilize a firewall. This parameter
enables users to configure the hostname or IP address and the port number
that the Java Administration Console should use, to connect to NetBackup
Service Layer (NBSL) service on the NetBackup host being administered.

Etrack Incident = ET784650

Description:
NetBackup communication between components that were separated by a
firewall did not work.  For instance, when a master server was behind the
firewall and a media server was outside the firewall, all communication
from the master server had an internal host address that was not accessible
   from outside systems.

This is the same when clients and other services are in question.

Additional Notes:
To activate NAT address replacement, systems outside of the firewall should
have the FIREWALL_IN parameter specified in their bp.conf/registry.

   Format:  FIREWALL_IN=hostname1,nat_address1|hostname2,nat_address2|...

Where: <hostname> is the name of the host system that needs to be accessed
and <nat_address> is the actual NAT address for the firewall to do
   forwarding.

Etrack Incident = ET796265

Description:
In the Daemons view in Activity Monitor, sometimes the child processes
would appear in the view instead of the parent process. This happened while
a backup or restore job was in progress. If this happened when this view

Etrack Incident = ET613066

Description:
In the Java user interface, a Shared Storage Option (SSO) drive cannot be
added using the Add Path in the Change drive dialog.

Additional Notes:
Wrong command line switches were passed for adding API robots (such as ACS,
TLM, and TLH).  The change contained in this pack resolves this issue by
   building the command lines properly.

Etrack Incident = ET613049

Description:
The Nearstore storage unit will only allow backups to volumes where the
image mode of the backup that is being written matches other images
currently on that volume. The user interface would populate volumes based
   on the type of selection.

The selection of checkboxes determines the mode that is used to backup to
a specific storage unit. The two checkboxes are "enable block sharing" and
"enable file system export". The following list describes the possible
combinations of checkboxes and what "mode" that combination enables:
   - If neither box is checked:
Display volumes associated to "image mode".

   - If the "enable block sharing" button is checked but the "enable file
system sharing" box is NOT checked:
Display volumes associated to "SOI( Space Optimized Image )mode"

   - If both the "enable block sharing" and the "enable file system export"
     box are checked:
Display volumes associated to "file system export" mode

Etrack Incident = ET493934

Description:
The Java client (Windows only) received the following message when not
using vnetd to connect to the master server.

   Unable to login, status 517

Workaround:
To avoid this issue, use vnetd to connect to the master server.

Additional Notes:
For Windows only: When the master is NOT transient, as would be the case
when the master is connected via the default port, (NOT vnetd); the master
will create a socket/event on which it will listen for a child user server
(stderr/stdout). Stderr/stdout will contain the first parcel of information
passed back to the master, including the port number for the user server,
   or the IPC string.

Additional logon information is passed from user server to master server
using a separate connection/socket, which is maintained for NON-transient
masters. That second connection is establised using vnetd, and is used for
passing 'activity' information back to the master. Once the child has
written the first parcel of information, the socket is closed.  The master
then attempts to remove the socket/event from its listening queue. BUT,
when removing the Windows event (which has a one-to-one correspondence with
a socket), an earlier change (pursuant to the resolution of ET320640),
incorrectly tried to translate what it thought was a socket, to its
corresponding event, when, in fact, no conversion should have been
attempted.  The failed conversion created an invalid event handle which
caused WaitForMultipleObjects() to fail, and the master server to
   prematurely exit.

In this instance, the master terminated before the vnetd connection from
the user to the master could be created. Failing that connection, the user
server terminated, thus closing the socket to the Java client, and causing
   the logon sequence to fail.

Description:
Unable to create and/or modify disk staging storage units using the
NetBackup-Java Administration Console if a 5.x system is upgraded to 6.0
or if a 5.x license key is used during a NetBackup 6.0 server installation.

Workaround:
To avoid this issue, you can update to a NetBackup 6.0 key.
