==================
II. KNOWN ISSUES
==================
This section contains known issues with this maintenance pack that have not
yet been fixed in NetBackup. These issues will likely be fixed in future
maintenance packs for this version of NetBackup.

+ The Veritas Private Branch Exchange (PBX) software is installed along with
Veritas NetBackup 6.0. Depending on how NetBackup is installed, PBX may log
messages by default to the UNIX system logs /var/adm/messages or
/var/adm/syslog, or to the Windows Event Log. This can cause additional
system logging that the system administrator may not desire. The messages
written to the system logs are the same as those written to the PBX logs
(/opt/VRTSpbx/log on UNIX and <install_path>\VxPBX\log on Windows).

To disable PBX logging to the system or event logs after NetBackup has been
installed, enter the following commands:

UNIX:
cd /opt/VRTSicsco/bin
./vxlogcfg -a -p 50936 -o 103 -s LogToOslog=false

Windows:
cd <install_path>\VERITAS\VRTSicsco
vxlogcfg a p 50936 o 103 s LogToOslog=false

It should not be necessary to restart PBX for this setting to take effect.
Any future PBX log information should no longer appear in the system logs.

For more information about this issue or information on how to disable the
option, refer to the following TechNote on the Symantec Support Web site.

http://entsupport.symantec.com/docs/280746

+ (ET1314642) An issue exists so that you are unable to stop the NetBackup
services using the NetBackup Administration Console on the master server.
For more detailed information about this issue and a possible work-around,
refer to the following TechNote on the Symantec Support Web site.

http://entsupport.symantec.com/docs/308303

+ (ET1365680) A Microsoft SharePoint issue exists that causes multiple
database site-redirect restores to fail to recover all sites. For more
detailed information about this issue and a possible work-around, refer
to the following TechNote on the Symantec Support Web site.

http://entsupport.symantec.com/docs/308304

+ (ET1297796) An error may occur when attempting to connect the restored
databases to the Microsoft SharePoint Portal Farm. For more detailed
information about this issue and a possible work-around, refer to the
following TechNote on the Symantec Support Web site.

http://entsupport.symantec.com/docs/308305

+ (ET1249029) Product dependency notification for customers running Microsoft
Windows Vista or Windows 2008 server.

If you are protecting client (or server) systems that are running either
Microsoft Windows Vista or Windows 2008 server, you may need to install
Microsoft hot-fix number KB952696. If you are attempting to back up any
protected files that have been encrypted by the operating system, NetBackup
will not be able to back these files up. NetBackup will report that it is
unable to access the encrypted files and the backup will continue with all
of the remaining files.

NOTE: This does not apply to NetBackup encryption. NetBackup encryption
is separate from the file system encryption, meaning NetBackup-encrypted
files will be backed up. In addition, this hot-fix is not needed for any
Windows version prior to Microsoft Windows Vista or Windows 2008 server. If
you are running Vista or Server 2008, please refer to KB952696 to see if
this hot-fix is required for your operating system version.

+ A failed NetBackup 6.0 MP4 install or uninstall may not rollback properly

During an install or uninstall process, if a failure occurs, it is normal
procedure for the installer to stop and begin a rollback operation. The
purpose of the rollback is to return NetBackup to your previously installed
version.

If a failure occurs during an install or uninstall of this maintenance pack,
the rollback may not complete properly. The following list describes how you
can determine if the rollback failed to complete properly:

- Open your Windows Explorer and verify that the Product Versions of the
files are not named with the current Maintenance Pack name. For
example, none of the files should have a product version name of 6.0MP4.

- After the rollback completes, try starting the EMM service. If it does
not run, then the rollback failed.

If you encounter any of these symptoms and need more information about this
issue and how to resolve it, refer to TechNote 285743 on the Symantec Support
Web site. You can also contact your Symantec Support representative for
assistance on regaining functionality within your system configuration.

+ Customers interested in the Bare Metal Restore (BMR) Boot Server, should
first install the BMR Boot Server, and then apply the NetBackup 6.0MP7 patch.

Customers that have already upgraded to NetBackup 6.0MP4 and are interested
in the BMR Boot Server, may do so by first installing the BMR Boot Server and
then replying the 6.0MP7 patch. The 6.0MP7 patch will not need to be
uninstalled prior to the installation of the BMR Boot Server.

+ When restoring on a Windows system that uses the Broadcom NetExtreme II chip
set, the Bare Metal Restore (BMR) cleanup process may hang. Self Restores that
use a "Current" Configuration will work. However, you may encounter problems
while attempting a Dissimilar Restores (DSR ) or a Self Restores using "copied"
configuration.

Before you attempt any such restores, Symantec recommends that you refer to
the following TechNote on the Symantec Support Web site for more details.
http://entsupport.symantec.com/docs/289611

+ For Volume Snapshot Provider (VSP) users, a reboot will be required before
the latest VSP fixes will take effect.

+ The NetBackup 6.0 Commands document contains some incorrect information for
the bplist command. The following accurately explains this command.

The bplist command shows a list of previously archived or backed up files
according to the options that you specify. You can choose the file or
directory and the time period that you want the listing to cover.
Directories can be recursively displayed to a specified depth.

The bplist command shows only the files that you have read access to. It
lists the files only if a user backup is performed by the user owning the
files (that is, an administrator account). A non-administrator or backup
operator cannot bplist the files. You also must own or have read access to
all directories in the file paths. You can list files that were backed up
or archived by another client only if you are validated to do so by the
NetBackup administrator.

If you create the following directory /usr/openv/netbackup/logs/bplist/
with public-write access, bplist creates an debug log file in this
directory that you can use for troubleshooting. The output of bplist goes
to standard output.

+ (ET1212445) NetBackup will not import tapes in an ACSLS library when the
barcode label is different than the media ID or recorded volume serial
number (RVSN). A mismatch occurs when the barcode and media ID do not
match in the volume database.

A mismatch can occur for multiple reasons. Two examples include:
1. When using tapes previously written by a different barcode, labels
are placed into an ACSLS library using a new barcode label.
2. The administrator attempts to change the media ID field (using
vmchange) to match the RVSN. In this example when the inventory is
updated, the barcode and media ID will be synchronized.

To be able to restore from these tapes, the media ID used when mounting
the tapes using the automatic cartridge system daemon (ACSD) needs to
match the recorded media ID as found in the header on the tape (RVSN).

The recommended approach is to use a barcode label that matches the
recorded media ID. Tapes can then be mounted in a drive with AVRD
running so that the recorded media ID is displayed. Then, a barcode
with that label needs to be placed on the tape. For more information
on how to resolve this issue, refer to the following TechNote on the
Symantec Support Web site.

http://entsupport.symantec.com/docs/279257

+ (ET1065162) A backup job that requires the use of the Storage Foundation for
Windows (SFW) 5.0 VSS (Volume Shadow Copy Service) may fail because of an
access violation issue. Applications that use this technology are the
NetBackup Advanced Client Backup and Alternate Client Backup features. For
more information on how to successfully perform a snapshot backup using the
SFW VSS method in NetBackup 6.0 MP7, refer to the following TechNote on the
Symantec Support Web site.

http://entsupport.symantec.com/docs/287298

+ (ET1013914) Installing a NetBackup 6.0GA BMR boot server on a system that
currently has NetBackup 6.0 MP7 installed, will not install correctly. When
this occurs, install the NetBackup 6.0 MP7 maintenance pack again, this time,
select the Repair option to reapply the BMR boot server binaries. After the
patch is reapplied, the command run the following command to register the
Boot Server.

<InstallDir>\Program Files\VERITAS\Netbackup\bin\bmrsetupboot.exe

+ (ET1065797) The NetBackup Administrator's Guide explains that list entries
that end with a backward slash (\) will exclude only directories with that
path name (for example, C:\users\test\). If the pattern does not end in \
(for example, C:\users\test), then NetBackup excludes both files and
directories with that path name. However, an issue exists where list entries
that do end in \ still cause the files and directories to be excluded.

In addition to this issue, the Backup, Archive and Restore (BAR) user
interface removes the trailing backslash to newly added entries after an
exclude entry has been entered in the Exclude field.

+ (ET1055007) For push installations, it is important to remember to have
NetBackup 6.0 MP7 uninstalled before you attempt to push NetBackup to other
machines.

+ (ET1058484) It is possible for the install process to fail if a service
was running during the install and caused a conflict to occur. If this
happens, manually stop the afflicting service and restart the install.

+ (ET1150218) A problem exists when attempting to perform Instant Recovery
backups on an SQL server. The problem occurs if you change the Instant
Recovery option in any automatic application schedule from the default value.
The default value is "Snapshots and copy snapshots to storage unit". Symantec
recommends that you do not change the value in the automatic schedule.

To avoid this issue and create a snapshot-only Instant Recovery for SQL
Server, you must set the application schedule to snapshot-only. (Select the
Instant Recovery option, Snapshot only".) Note, that any automatic schedules
that you create for the policy must remain at the default value, which is,
"Snapshots and copy snapshots to a storage unit."

+ (ET1178148) The Windows NetBackup Administration Console uses the operating
system functions within the SCM to determine what services are running. When
running under NBAC a user must also have the appropriate operating system
privileges to query the SCM to determine the state of the running processes.

IV. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
=============================
Before you install, review the following list of notes:

- When installing and uninstalling this pack, the instructions contained
in the Online Readme always supersede the instructions contained in the
installed version.

- Click on the "Download Now" link, near the bottom of this document
prior to running the following installation procedure for this pack.

- Symantec recommends that you perform a catalog backup before and after
you apply this maintenance pack.

- If you are planning to install this Maintenance Pack as a part of an
upgrade from a 5.x release then it is important that you understand
that the existing NetBackup databases must be in a consistent state prior
to beginning the upgrade. Information and tools to assist you in
determining the current state of your database, as well as instructions to
help you address any inconsistencies that you might discover can be viewed
on the NetBackup Upgrade Portal, a part of the Symantec NetBackup Support
Web site.

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/overview.jsp?pid=15143

- If you are upgrading from 5.x to 6.0, you must install this Maintenance
Pack before you run nbpushdata. Failure to install this Maintenance Pack
first may result in a failed upgrade.

For Maintenance Pack installation on Windows CLUSTER Environment:

1) Install this Maintenance Pack on the nodes of the cluster where the
NetBackup group is inactive. (follow steps 1-4 below)

NOTE: When installing on a VCS cluster, complete the installation of this
pack on a single node before you begin installing on another node.

2) Install this Maintenance Pack locally on the active node.
This should be done when the NetBackup system is quiet, for example,
no backups or restores running.

NOTE: Do not freeze or off-line the cluster before installing in a
clustered environment. The NetBackup maintenance pack installation
will perform these operations for you.

CAUTION: Do not failover the NetBackup Group until all NetBackup nodes
(including the active NetBackup node) have the maintenance pack
installed.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Installation steps:

1) Close all NetBackup Windows.
Make sure the NetBackup system has no active backups, restores,
duplications, etc., running. If there are NetBackup activities in process,
the Maintenance Pack will require a reboot if the file to update is busy.

If a database client is being used, such as Oracle, ensure that the
database services are stopped. Database services can be stopped using the
ControlPanel -> Services tool. Repeat this until all databases have been
stopped. These services must be restarted once the patch is successfully
installed.

2) Run Setup.exe (Double-click on the icon from File Manager or Explorer or run
it from the command prompt)

Setup.exe begins by stopping the appropriate NetBackup Services required for
the Maintenance Pack installation. Next, it will install the necessary files
into their correct locations. Lastly, Setup.exe will restart the appropriate
NetBackup services.

3) Examine the install log located under the user profile that completed the
install. The following is an example of the user administrator that
completed the install. This path may be hidden and you may need to unhide
hidden or system files to view the log.

C:\Documents and Settings\administrator\Local Settings\Temp\
NetBackup Install...log

Search the install log for the following string to determine if an error has
occurred. "Return Value 3".

4) Remove the temporary directory created in the download instructions.

NOTE: If you are installing the Maintenance Pack using the silent install script,
please review the <TEMP>.Log after the installation is finished,
a reboot maybe required to complete the installation of the Maintenance Pack. A
search of the log for the key words "in use" will indicate which files were busy
during the installation.

NOTE: Symantec recommends that you perform a catalog backup after you have
applied this maintenance pack.

=========================
V. UNINSTALL INSTRUCTIONS
=========================
To uninstall the Maintenance Pack from a Windows CLUSTER Environment:

NOTE: When uninstalling on a VCS cluster, complete the uninstall of this
pack on a single node before you begin uninstalling on another node.

1) Uninstall this Maintenance Pack from the nodes of the cluster where the
NetBackup group is inactive. (follow steps 1-2 below)

2) Uninstall this Maintenance Pack from the active NetBackup node.
This should be done when the NetBackup system is quiet, for example,
no backups or restores running.

CAUTION:
Do not failover the NetBackup Group until all NetBackup nodes (including
the active NetBackup node) have the Maintenance Pack uninstalled.

**Important notice regarding un-installs on Windows**
Only the last Maintenance Pack installed on a Windows system
can be un-installed.

1) Close all NetBackup Windows.
Make sure the NetBackup server has no active backups, restores,
duplications, etc., running. If there are NetBackup activities in process,
the Maintenance Pack will not install if the file to update is busy.

If a database client is being used, such as Oracle, ensure that the
database services are stopped. Database services can be stopped via the
Control Panel -> Services tool. Repeat this until all databases have been
stopped. These services must be restarted once the patch is successfully
uninstalled.

2) Go to Add/Remove programs dialog box and select the correct Pack to be
uninstalled.
