Storage Foundation and High Availability Solutions 5.0 MP3 for Linux: devices in a non-ready state may cause a system panic

Solution

On the 5.0 MP3 release of Veritas Volume Manager for Linux, if a device open and inquiry succeeds and I/O fails at an early stage of Volume Manager startup, it causes a system panic.

For example, EMC devices with BCV could generate this error condition:

With devices in non-ready state, system panics at an early stage of boot or after running command vxdctl enable or vxconfigd -k (e1401029)

Workaround:

Install the Volume Manager 5.0 Maintenance Pack 3 Hot Fix 3 Patch for Linux on your system.

Errors/Problems Fixed:

With devices in non-ready state, system panics at an early stage of boot
or after running command vxdctl enable or vxconfigd -k (e1401029)

Slow I/O performance with VxFS filesystems on mirror-concat VxVM volumes
with DCO and DRL (e1375303)

SmartMove fixes to support VxVM move operations, layered volumes and
instant snapshots. (e1366824,e1366849,e1321752,e1363318)
