File types that Enterprise Vault can convert for indexing

Problem

The Storage Service accepts items for archiving from the archiving tasks.  If possible, it generates a text or HTML version of each item, which the Indexing Service uses to compile indexing data for the item.  The Storage Service compresses and stores the items (and the text or HTML versions) in the appropriate archives.

Solution

The following are examples of file types that cannot be converted to text or HTML and are excluded by default in Enterprise Vault 10.0.

.ABS.AIF.AIFC.AIFF.ASF.ASX.AU.AVI.BIN.BMP.BP
.C2D.CBT.CCD.CD.CDI.CHM.CIF.CUR.DAT.DAO.DVS
.DWI.ENC.EVT.FCD.FDM.FP.GCD.GI.GIF.GTS.HLP
.ICO.IMG.ISO.JFI.JFIF.JIF.JPE.JPEG.JPG.JTF
.M1V.M2V.M3U.MDF.MDS.MID.MMM.MOD.MODV.MOO
.MOOV.MOV.MP2.MPA.MPE.MPEG.MPEGA.MPEGV.MPG
.MPM.MPP.MPV.MSO.NRG.OLE.PAB.PDI.PJPEG.PLS
.PNG.POI.PST.PUB.PXI.QT.QTM.QTW.RA.RAM.RAW
.RM.RMI.RMJ.RMX.RP.RV.SND.SNP.SWA.SWF.TAO.TIF
.TIFF.VDO.VIV.WAV.WMA.WMV.Z01.Z02.Z03.Z04.Z05
.Z06.Z07.Z09.Z10.Z08.

The list of file types can be modified to specify further file types that should not be converted.  This information is stored in the registry key ExcludedFileTypesFromConversion located in

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
\SOFTWARE
\Wow6432Node
\KVS
\Enterprise Vault

Prefix each file type with a period and end the list with a period.  For example:

.GIF.JPG.

While the file types can be excluded using the ExcludedFileTypesFromConversion registry key, it is recommended to use below site level setting to configure the exclusions. This will make sure all EV Servers have the same settings:

    Advanced (Tab)

        Content Conversion

            File types excluded from conversion
