Problem

BUG REPORT: NetBackup 6.5 may not properly deallocate drives. nbrb reports "failed set drive as unmounted status 2005023".

Solution

Bug: 1361178

Details:
There may be left-over allocations in the EMM table if nbrb and/or nbemm are shut down uncleanly (for example, using kill -9 or because of a core dump).

Shutting down NetBackup will not clear these allocations.

Log Files:
The nbrb log file (originator ID 118) will show:
07/07/08 23:02:15.218 PID:590 TID:9 [No context] failed to set drive stkgp0477_lto2_d46_1.1.1.8 as unmounted, status 2005023
07/07/08 23:02:15.247 PID:590 TID:9 [No context] failed to set drive stkgh0475_lto2_d46_0.1.1.8 as unmounted, status 2005023

The above messages will repeat frequently within the nbrb log.

Workaround:
To release allocations:

1. Immediately prior to shutdown of the NetBackup processes run:
#/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/nbrbutil -resetAll

2. Recycle the NetBackup processes.
#/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/goodies/netbackup stop

#/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/goodies/netbackup start
