Veritas Volume Manager 5.0 Maintenance Pack 3 SmartMove Hot Fix for Linux, AIX and Solaris

Problem

Veritas Volume Manager 5.0 Maintenance Pack 3 SmartMove Hot Fix for Linux, AIX and Solaris

Solution

SmartMove can be used to migrate online to thin provisioning capable storage arrays and automatically reclaim unused space.

In the 5.0 MP3 release, SmartMove only applies to the vxplex command and is turned off by default.

This hot fix extends SmartMove to all supported VxVM move operations, layered volumes and instant snapshots.

With the hot fix, the default behavior is to use SmartMove for VxVM volumes that contain disks that are known to be thin, typically through automated discovery of device attributes.

The hot fix can be installed if you want to use SmartMove before the release of 5.0 MP3 RP1 or 5.0 MP3 RP2.

See the Volume Manager Administration Guide chapter 7 for more information about SmartMove and see chapter 8 for more information about thin provisioning and thin disks.
