Cause

The above error is generated while performing a backup of Microsoft SQL 2000 database with the Advanced Open File Option (AOFO) selected in the Backup Job Properties.

Solution

Perform either of the following to resolve the issue:

1. SQL 2000 is not a snapshot aware database, backups need to be run separately from Advanced Open File Option (AOFO) or Advanced Disk-Based Backup Option (ADBO) enabled backup jobs:

I. On the Backup Job Properties pane, under Settings, click Advanced Open File.

II. Deselect the option "Use Advanced Open File Option" during SQL backups and re-run the backup.

2. This error could also occur due to Virtual Device Interface (VDI) failure on the SQL machine. To resolve the issue, re-register the SQLVDI.DLL as follows:

I. Stop the MSSQLServer service.

II. Launch Windows Explorer and locate the path for the file SQLVDI.DLL.

Note: The default path of the Sqlvdi.dll file is C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\COM, but the file may be in a different location or more than one file may exist.

3. Click Start, click Run, type Regsvr32 Path\SQLVDI.DLL in the Open box, and then click OK.

4. Start the MSSQLServer Service.
