Problem

An Oracle backup job fails with the error "Final error: 0xe0001401 - The Remote Agent Utility has not been configured with system credentials for database access. Add these credentials, and then retry the operation."

Error Message

Final error: 0xe0001401 - The Remote Agent Utility has not been configured with system credentials for database access. Add these credentials, and then retry the operation.

Solution

Verify the logon credentials configured in the Veritas Backup Exec Remote Agent Utility and in Backup Exec console.

To configure database access on the media server for Oracle operations:

1. On the media server, on Tools menu, click Options | Job defaults | Oracle.

2. Click on Modify list.

3. On the Authentication Credentials for Oracle and DB2 Servers dialog box, add the Oracle server name and logon account to the media server's list of authentication credentials (Figure 1).

Note: The logon account name must have administrative rights to the Oracle server. Use the same logon account format that is entered on the Database Access tab in the Remote Agent Utility.

Make sure to use the Remote Agent Utility on the Oracle Server to configure instance information and database access. This would enable Oracle operations between the media server and the Oracle computer.

To configure the Oracle instance information in the Remote Agent Utility:

4. On the computer on which the Remote Agent is installed, on the task bar, click Start | All Programs | Veritas Backup Exec for Windows Servers | Backup Exec Remote Agent Utility.

5. Click the Oracle tab. To add an instance click on New and the instance. Any instances that currently exist on the computer appear on the tab. These instances can be edited or deleted, or view information about the instances.

6. Click on the Database Tab under Backup Exec Remote Agent utility

7. Check Enable media server authentication for Oracle and DB2 operations to enter the credentials that the media server will use for all operations on the Oracle server, including DBA-initiated operations. The media server also uses these credentials for authentication of the Oracle server. (Figure 2)

8. Check Use the full computer name or IP address for Oracle and DB2 operations to use either the full computer name or IP address for operations between the remote computer and the media server.

Note: Logon account used in step 3 and step 7 should be in the same format. For example, if the account is added in the Remote Agent Utility in the format "Domainname\Username", use that same format on the list of authentication credentials on the media server.

9. In the Backup Exec Console select Tools -> Options -> Oracle, Click on Modify List.

10. Add three entries of the Oracle server such as IP address, Host name and Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) of the Oracle server. Use the same account used in configuration of Database Access -> Enable media server authentication for Oracle and DB2 operations

11. Restart all Backup Exec services and rerun backup.
