DOCUMENTATION: Recovering a Master Server at a disaster recovery site from a catalog backup requires the same topology.
Note: Symantec does not support the recovery of a catalog image that was backed up using an earlier version of NetBackup.

When carrying out a full catalog recovery to a Master Server at a disaster recovery site using a catalog backup the disaster recovery (DR) Master Server must have the same "topology" as the original Master Server.
For standalone Master Servers this means:
For clustered Master Servers this means:
NOTE: It is not possible to restore a catalog backup made from a cluster Master Server to a standalone Master Server. If the original Master Server is clustered then the DR Master Server must also be clustered although this may be a single node cluster and the member node may have a different name to the member nodes of the original Master Server cluster.
This requirement applies to both "hot" and "cold" catalog backup in NetBackup 6.x and all catalog backups in NetBackup 7.x. Cold catalog backups are not supported starting at NetBackup 7.0
NOTE: This requirement only applies to full catalog recovery. Partial catalog recovery from a catalog backup to a Master Server with a different name or cluster configuration (but not a different operating system) is possible but may require additional, post recovery work of the type described in tech notes TECH28722 and TECH66060 to use the recovered information effectively.
