Problem

Computer will not boot with recovery disk. Error message is "Windows failed to load because the firmware (BIOS) is not ACPI compatible."

Solution

When using an external USB CD-ROM drive for booting to the Veritas System Recovery Disk, the error noted above is encountered and the Recover Environment fails to load. This error has to do with an incompatibility between the computer's power settings in the BIOS and the CD-ROM drive being used as the boot device. To work around this situation, take the following steps:

1. Boot the computer to the BIOS configuration
2. Check the ACPI setting under the Power options
3. Enable (or disable) the ACPI setting (change its state) and retry the operation.

In most cases, changing the state of the ACPI setting in the computer's BIOS will resolve the issue. If issues persist, contact Veritas Technical Services for additional troubleshooting.
