Problem

VMWare Consolidated Backup Policy Validation fails with Status 156. (VMware_freeze: Unable to locate VM vmmachine1)

Error Message

EXIT STATUS 156: snapshot error encountered

Solution

ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS:
When using NetBackup with VMWare Consolidated Backup to build a client list, VMWare runs vcbvmname to gather a list of VM machines and IP addresses. In order to validate the correct VM machine is being backed up, NetBackup performs a reverse lookup against the IP address and builds the policy list based on the results of the reverse lookup.
In an environment where the VM Machine has multiple names in DNS resolving to 1 IP, then issues may be seen when verifying the VM Machines.

EVIDENCE:

SOLUTION/WORKAROUND:
Configure a host file on the Proxy Server to resolve the IP back to the real "Computer Name".
