A Remote Agent for Linux and Unix Servers backup job completes with exceptions and the error "Unable to open the item - skipped" is displayed in the job log
The backup job completes with exceptions. (Figure 1)
This issue could occur if the file being backed up is in use or locked by another application. RALUS before Backup Exec version 2012 cannot back up open files.
The above error appears in the job log while performing a backup using the Remote Agent for Linux and Unix Servers (RALUS).
It is recommended to back up the user-data and system configuration files using RALUS so that in case of a disaster, it is possible to restore the backed up data after reinstalling the operating system and applications. Backup Exec 2012 has Open File Option handling for some versions of Linux. Please see the Backup Exec 2012 - Software Compatibility List for Backup Exec for details.
Note: The error message "Unable to open the item <item> - skipped" may be changed to a more descriptive error message in the future release of the Backup Exec.

There are no plans to address this issue by way of a patch or hotfix in the current or previous versions of the software at the present time.
