After upgrading from Storage Foundation for Windows (and HA) 4.3 MP 1 to Storage Foundation for Windows (and HA) 4.3 MP 2, the Microsoft Windows Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) service will throw errors and may not start correctly.

Problem

After upgrading from Storage Foundation for Windows (and HA) 4.3 Maintenance pack 1 to Storage Foundation for Windows (and HA) 4.3 Maintenance Pack 2; the Microsoft Windows Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) service will throw errors and may not start correctly.

Solution

Following an upgrade from Storage Foundation for Windows (and HA) 4.3 Maintenance Pack 1 to 4.3 Maintenance Pack 2, the following errors may appear in the System Event log from Source SNMP and EventID 1102:

The SNMP Service is ignoring extension agent dll D:\WINDOWS\System32\evntagnt.dll because it is missing or misconfigured.
The SNMP Service is ignoring extension agent dll D:\WINDOWS\System32\ripagnt.dll because it is missing or misconfigured.

On Windows Server 2003 x86 platforms:

  • The SNMP service will terminate.
  • Subsequent attempts to restart the service will see the same messages and service termination occur.

On Windows 2000 Server Service Pack 4:

  • The SNMP service will start but may cause high CPU.
  • The Veritas Enterprise Administrator Service may not function correctly.

Cause
This is caused by a registry key that has not been terminated properly.
