udid_mistmatch error for shared disks in vxdisk list output

Problem

udid_mistmatch error for shared disks in vxdisk list output

Error Message

# vxdisk list
DEVICE TYPE DISK GROUP STATUS
sdb auto:cdsdisk dg01 01dg online shared udid_mismatch
sdc auto:cdsdisk dg02 01dg online shared udid_mismatch

Solution

Unique Disk Identifier, UDID is introduced from Volume Manager 5.0 to differentiate between hardware mirror copies from original LUNs.
When a disk is initialized, UDID is derived from Array Vendor ID, Product ID, Array serial number and LUN serial number saved in disk
private region.  This saved UDID is compared with UDID calculated by Device Discovery Layer, when Disk Groups are imported. If both
does not matches udid_mismatch flag is set for that disk.

Shared Disk Groups are imported on all the nodes in Cluster Volume Manager. If LUN serial number are not presented same for all nodes,
Volume Manger will get different UDID and flags shared disks as udid_mismatch.

SOLUTION:
Configure Storage Arrays to present same LUN serial number to all the connected nodes. For EMC Arrays arrange to unset homogenous bit.
