A backup job of an Oracle Failsafe Cluster database may fail if the Oracle cluster group is in an online state on a node other than the node where the MSCS cluster group is also online.
0xe000848c - Unable to attach to a resource. Make sure that all the selected resources exist and are online, and then try again.
For Backup Exec version 11d, 12, 12.5 and 2010
When Backup Exec is configured to protect Oracle database instances in an Oracle Failsafe clustered environment, the Oracle cluster group(s) must be configured and backed up when both the MSCS and Oracle cluster groups are online on the same node.
If a backup is configured when both groups are online on the same node, but one of the cluster groups fails over and goes into an online state on another node prior to the backup job running, the following error will occur:
"0xe000848c - Unable to attach to a resource. Make sure that all the selected resources exist and are online, and then try again."
Backups with Backup Exec 12.5 or Backup Exec 2010 fail with the error "ORA-12560: TNS: Protocol Adaptor error"
This is expected behavior. Please note the following:
1. Oracle Failsafe Manager can only attach to the cluster when the MSCS group is online on that same node
2. Backup Exec VxMon will only accept the Oracle Database login credentials when the MSCS group is online on that same node
3. When Failsafe is installed, it puts the "Oracle Services for MSCS" resource in the MSCS Cluster Group which is dependent on the cluster IP resource
It is therefore necessary for the MSCS Cluster Group and the Oracle Failsafe Cluster group(s) to be online and on the same node in order for Backup Exec to be successfully configured and to back up the clustered Oracle databases without error.
