ProblemPatch for Veritas Array Integration Layer (VAIL) 4.2.45, Symmetrix provider binary
This patch applies to the VRTSvail package version 4.2.45 for Veritas 4.1 products on the Solaris platform.
The tarball attached to this TechFile includes a binary (vx_emc_symmetrix.so) and a readme.txt. This readme.txt contains a description of this patch, installation and removal instructions, and other information.
Instructions to unpack this tarball:
# gunzip vx_emc_symmetrix.so.tar_287776.gz
# tar xvf vx_emc_symmetrix.so.tar_287776
Platform: Solaris 8 and above
Patch: Solaris patch 111721-04 for Solaris 8 or equivalent.
To install the fixed VAIL Symmetrix provider binary, follow these steps:
1. Stop the vxsvc process:
# /opt/VRTS/bin/vxsvcctrl stop
2. Make a backup copy of the existing provider binary:
# cd /opt/VRTSvail/providers
# cp vx_emc_symmetrix.so vx_emc_symmetrix.so.saved
3. Copy the bundled vx_emc_symmetrix.so to the /opt/VRTSvail/providers directory.
4. Remove the DefaultPollingInterval attribute from the registry (refer to note "DefaultPollingInterval changed to 24 hrs" below)
# /opt/VRTS/bin/vxregctl deletevalue
5. Start the vxsvc process:
# /opt/VRTS/bin/vxsvcctrl start
To uninstall this fixed binary, copy the backed up vx_emc_symmetrix.so file over the fixed binary and restart the vxsvc server.
Note: DefaultPollingInterval changed to 24 hours
The default polling interval for the Symmetrix array discovery is changed to 1440 minutes (24 hours). However, the value set in the "DefaultPollingInterval" attribute in the Registry is still honored. To make the VAIL Symmetrix provider use the new default polling interval, existing setting needs to be removed from the registry.
