Problem

STATUS CODE 25: NetBackup catalog backups fail with NetBackup Status Code 25 (cannot connect on socket).

Solution

Overview: NetBackup catalog backups fail with NetBackup Status Code 25 (cannot connect on socket).

Troubleshooting:
Running the netstat -an command on the master server shows about a large number of ports in TIME_WAIT status.

Log files:  N/A

Resolution:
In addition to the steps outlined in the In-depth Troubleshooting Guide for Exit Status Code 25 in Veritas NetBackup (tm) Server / NetBackup Enterprise Server 6.0 (see link below in Related Documents section), another issue which can cause NetBackup Status Code 25 is the time which must elapse before a closed connection is released and the system can reuse the resources.  On a Windows server, this is the TcpTimedWaitDelay value, on a Sun Solaris server, this is the TCP_TIME_WAIT_INTERVAL.
