Problem

Duplicate jobs created by the Duplicate Backup Sets template in a policy duplicate a different amount of data and the job fails with "Unexpected end of backup set encountered on "

 

Error Message

Unexpected end of backup set encountered on . V-79-57344-34004 - End of data set was unexpectedly encountered. The connection to target system has been lost. Backup set canceled.

 

Cause

The error is caused by a previous backup job created by a policy which failed, and the duplicate job attempted to duplicate the data from the previously failed backup set as well as the current backup set to the same media.

 

Solution

To resolve the issue, you must edit the selection list of the duplicate job to reflect the current job, and run the duplicate again.

To edit the selection list of the duplicate job:

1. Right click on the failed job under Job History in Job Monitor, then select Edit Selection List. (Figure 1)

2. An In Use Warning appears, click "Yes" to continue.  (Figure 2)

3. From the duplicate backup sets properties, navigate to the selected selection and remove the selection from the previous backup sets. Click OK and close the duplicate backup sets properties.  (Figure 3)

4. Rerun the duplicate job.  Right-click the failed job under Job History in Job Monitor, and select "Retry Job Now" (Figure 4)
