Problem

"Unable to acquire device for the specified pool and media. Invalid Physical Volume Library Drive Identifier" is reported when running a job created by the Restore Wizard.

Error Message

Unable to acquire device for the specified pool and media. Invalid Physical Volume Library Drive Identifier.

Cause

The backup device had not been Inventoried, and the Restore Wizard (located under the Jobs menu) was used to create the job.

Solution

The error occurred because the backup device had not been inventoried, and the Restore Wizard (located under Tools, Wizards) was used to create the job.

The error does not occur if the job is created through the Restore Selections tab or by clicking the Restore button in the toolbar.

To inventory a drive:

From the Devices tab, do one of the following:

Go to Devices tab, right click the device and perform Inventory

The cartridge label of any media in the drive is displayed. If the media was created by a product other than this installation of Backup Exec (tm) (imported media), then the original media label is displayed under the heading Alternate Label. There may be a delay (up to several minutes for some drives) as the media is mounted and inventoried.

Also during restore operation specifically select the drive from which the data is to be restored.
