An Inventory or Catalog operation fails with the error "Error: 0x80070057: One or more arguments are invalid" using Symantec Backup Exec 10.x & above.
Error:0x80070057: One or more arguments are invalid.
This is a hardware error that may occur while performing Inventory or Catalog operations on a tape drive or robotic library due to driver or controller card issues.
A. Delete and redetect the device from the Backup Exec Devices tab:
2. After installing the drivers reboot the server.
C. If the issue is still unresolved and a tape library is in use, power-cycle the Tape Library using the instructions mentioned below:
1. Shut down the library.
2. Shut down the server.
3. Start the library (Wait until the LCD status says "ready").
4. Start the server .
5. Go to the Backup Exec Devices tab and verify that the devices are again visible.
D. Ensure that the tape drive or library is not connected to a RAID controller card. It is recommended to attach the tape device to a separate non-raid SCSI controller. Also avoid using the SCSI Id's 0, 1, and 6 as these are reserved Id's. For more information, please refer to the Related Documents section.
If the issue persists, it may be necessary to contact Microsoft or the hardware vendor for further suggestions.
