Enterprise Vault and support for Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 cumulative updates 6, 7 and 8

Problem

Veritas is pleased to announce support for Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 cumulative updates 6, 7 and 8 on the following versions of Enterprise Vault:

  • Enterprise Vault 11.0.1 Cumulative Hotfix 1
  • Enterprise Vault 10.0.4 Cumulative Hotfix 3

Note: support for Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 cumulative updates 6 and 7 is dependent on installation of the relevant Exchange Server 2013 cumulative updates Interim Update which is a mandatory requirement for this support.

The Enterprise Vault Compatibility Guide will be updated during its next release cycle to reflect this.

Cause

Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 cumulative update 6 introduced an issue which Microsoft acknowledged as a regression with Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 cumulative update 6 and cumulative update 7. This regression caused certain operations involving the post processing of items to occasionally fail with an out of memory error.

Solution

Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 cumulative update 8 resolves this issue with no requirement for an Interim Update to be applied. Please note the following Enterprise Vault version requirements:

For Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 cumulative updates 6 and 7:

2. Installation of the relevant Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 cumulative update's Interim Update is a mandatory requirement for this support.

  • Veritas Support will work with Microsoft to facilitate customer access to the relevant Interim Update.
  • Customers who already have a call logged with Veritas Support will not need to take any other action. These cases are in the process of being worked. Customers will be contacted by Microsoft with details on how to access the IU.
  • Customers who do not have a call logged with Veritas Support will need to raise a support case.
     


*Note: Customers who have installed a patch on top of 10.0.4 Cumulative Hotfix 3 (CHF3) to temporarily work around this issue are advised to remove the patch.
 

Steps to validate patch installation as well as patch removal:

  1. Ensure all Enterprise Vault services are stopped.
     
  2. Open an windows explorer and navigate to the install directory
        Typically <Install Drive>\Program Files (x86)\Enterprise Vault
     
  3. Remove the updated dlls
        AgentsCommon.dll 10.0.4.1369
        ExchangeItemsU.dll 10.0.4.1369
        ExchangeSynch.dll 10.0.4.1369

     
  4. Copy the default 10.0.4 CHF3 dlls to the same install directory
        AgentsCommon.dll 10.0.4.1354
        ExchangeItemsU.dll 10.0.4.1354
        ExchangeSynch.dll 10.0.4.1354

     
  5. Restart the Enterprise Vault Services
     
  6. Install appropriate Microsoft IU (for Cumulative Update 6 and 7) or Exchange 2013 Cumulative Update 8.
