"Linux media server option license violation" alert is reported if the client side deduplication is enabled

Problem

"Linux media server option license violation" alert is reported every hour if the client side deduplication (Direct access sharing) is enabled for a Linux server.

 

Error Message

Linux Media Server Option License Violation. V-275-444

The evaluation period for the Linux Media Server Option has expired. You must purchase the Linux Media Server Option or disable its devices.

Solution

A hotfix is now available for this issue in the current version(s) of the product(s) mentioned in this article. Refer to the Hotfix link under Related Documents in this article to obtain the hotfix needed to resolve the issue.
 
Backup Exec 15 Rev 1180 Feature Pack 1 (TECH228725).
 
This issue is resolved in Backup Exec 15 or later versions.
To resolve this issue and receive the new Backup Exec improvements please upgrade to the current version of Backup Exec.

The following steps must be performed after installing Feature Pack 1 

1) Open Backup Exec admin console.
2) Go to [Storage] tab.
3) Right click the Linux server name then select [Delete].
4) Select [Yes] to the confirmation of the deletion.
5) If it is Central Administration Server Option (CASO) environment and Direct access sharing is enabled on multiple servers, the following popup is displayed.

<Linux server name> is a shared device. How do you want to delete it?

Select "Delete <Linux server name> from all Backup Exec servers", then click [OK]
 
6) Answer [OK] to a prompt of the retarget jobs.
7) Repeat the deletion of the Linux servers.
8) Restart Backup Exec services.
a) Click Backup Exec icon at the upper left.
b) Click [Configuration and Settings] > [Backup Exec Services]
c) Confirm Backup Exec server name then click [Restart all services]
d) If it is CASO environment, restart Backup Exec services on each Backup Exec servers where Direct access sharing is enabled
9) Go to [Backup and Restore] tab, the edit the property of the backup jobs.
a) Drill down each Linux servers
b) Open the property of the backup jobs of the Linux server, select the target deduplication storage again.
c) If it is CASO environment, select Backup Exec server or Backup Exec server pool again.
d) click [OK] twice to save it.
e) In [Direct access sharing] pane at left, make sure of that Backup Exec server names which are hosting the target deduplication storage are displayed and the check box is enabled.
10) Restart Backup Exec services again.
