Problem

Events are not displaying in the Data Insight console.

The collector host is running Windows 2008.

The NetApp filer is accessible from the Windows 2008 collector host.

Solution

The following errors can be found on the NetApp Console:
[cifs.pipe.errorMsg:error]: CIFS: Error on named pipe with <SERVERNAME>: Error connecting to server, open pipe failed

[cifs.server.infoMsg:info]: CIFS: Warning for server \\<SERVERNAME >: Connection terminated.

Resolution:

1. Confirm Windows 2008 firewall is disabled.  If not, ports 139 and 445 need to be open bi-directionally.

2. Add an entry to the NetApp Filer's hosts file for both the shortname and fully qualified domain name of the Windows 2008 collector server.

If there is still an issue after the above has been performed, we may have an conflict the local policy settings on the Windows 2008 collector server.

1. Open the Local Security Policy on the Windows 2008 server ( Start -> Run -> secpol.msc )

2. Expand Local Policies and select Security Options

3. Select Network access: Named Pipes that can be accessed anonymously and add NTAPVSRQ to the list.

4. Select Network access: Let Everyone permissions apply to anonymous users and change the setting to Enabled .

5. Select Network access: Do not allow anonymous enumeration of SAM accounts and change the setting to Disabled .

6. Select Network access: Restrict anonymous access to Named Pipes and Shares and change the setting to Disabled .

7. Reboot the Windows 2008 collector host for the security modification to take place.

NOTE: Named Pipes is required only for NetApp 7-Mode. Clustered ONTAP does not require Named Pipes
