The Oracle RAC database remains in mounted state after the offline RAC database backup completes and the user needs to manually open the the database.
Problem
After the offline backup of Oracle RAC database, the database remains in mounted state and does not automatically opens and the users needs to manually open the database.
Cause
In the oracle RAC environment, srvctl is used to stop and start the database.During the offline backup of the oracle RAC database, Backup Exec directs the oracle to stop and then mount the database, the oracle uses srvctl to stop and mount the database. The RMAN then performs the backup of the oracle database in mounted state. However there is no option in srvctl to open the database from the mounted state which causes the database to remain in mounted state after the offline backup.
Solution
This behaviour is by design and the user needs to manually open the database after the offline backup.
